Job Summary

The College of Engineering & Applied Science (CEAS) at CU Boulder encourages applications for a Content and Communication Specialist! This position works to support select units with creating, managing and coordinating internal and external communications for a full range of audiences across a variety of communications channels.

As a member of the communications team within CEAS, this position collaborates with college and campus communications and advancement partners to support reputation, recruitment and retention priorities of assigned units / departments, especially as they relate to the college’s strategic priorities of research, education and inclusivity.

The position reports to the CEAS Associate Director of Communications.

Responsibilities include producing articles, webpages, digital newsletters and other publications, as well as supporting student recruitment and retention, reputation-building, and advancement efforts.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Department Communications :

Act as the primary communications liaison for one of the six primary academic departments in the College of Engineering and Applied Science.

Develop unit subject matter expertise, attend relevant meetings and participate in communities.

  • Lead the development and implementation of a communications operating plan for the department and determine the best channels for messaging.
  • Collaborate with college and campus communications and advancement partners to support reputation, recruitment and retention priorities of the department, especially as they relate to the college’s strategic priorities of research, education and inclusivity.
  • Plan, write, edit and manage production of communications, including print publications, digital newsletters, event publicity, digital screens, presentations and social media posts.
  • Serve as primary site editor for unit / department website, collaborating with college creative team for web design needs.
  • Collaborate with the college creative and marketing teams for externally facing content to ensure on-brand materials and messaging that meet the highest quality standards and that are in alignment with college positioning.
  • Collaborate with the college creative team on photography and video projects.
  • Regularly attend department meetings and collaborate with department committees as needed.

Program / College Communications :

  • Act as the primary contact for select programs or units within CEAS. Develop unit subject matter expertise, attend relevant meetings and participate in communities.
  • Provide communications and marketing support, including digital newsletters, stories and web updates.
  • Collaborate with supervisor, communications team and unit leadership to support communications and marketing priorities.

Other :

  • Support college communications and projects.
  • Participate in professional development activities and serve on unit, college, or campus committees as applicable.
  • Stay apprised and current on relevant University and State of Colorado policies and procedures.
  • Undertake other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

What We Can Offer

For the Professional 1 level, the salary range is $50,000 - $55,000.

For the Professional 2 level, the salary range is $56,000 - $60,000.

Relocation assistance is available within CEAS guidelines.

  • Professional I - Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication, public relations, marketing or other relevant field.
  • Professional II - Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication, public relations, marketing or other relevant field.

One year of job related professional-level experience

Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Three years of professional-level experience in journalism, communication, public relations or marketing.
  • Familiarity with applications for creating and distributing email newsletters.
  • Experience using Drupal or similar website content management systems.
  • Knowledge of social media sites, such as Facebook, Twitter / X, Instagram, and YouTube.
  • Knowledge of graphic design tools (specifically Adobe Creative Suite) for production of printed materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions and to address and resolve issues.
  • Experience working with students and faculty in a higher education environment.
