Description

The Department of Bioengineering at UC Denver | Auraria Campus in Denver has an opening for a full-time speech-language pathologist in our assistive technology program.

The University of Colorado Denver is seeking nominations and applications for the position of Augmentative and Alternative Communication Specialist. Job Responsibilities:

All job responsibilities are provided within the Center for Inclusive Design and Engineering (CIDE) program, with primary scope of work occurring within CIDE's specialty outpatient clinic.CIDE's Assistive Technology Clinic provides one-on-one services to individuals with a disability to improve their overall health and function through the acquisition and use of appropriate assistive technology.Primary responsibility within the clinic program will be in augmentative and alternative communication systems and devices and computer access for individuals with disabilities.Position is predominantly housed at the downtown campus office. Additional job responsibilities of this position may include participation in research, teaching and other projects as assigned.

1.Provide Services in our Clinic Program

a.Support clinic team in the ongoing delivery of state-of-the-art clinical intervention services in augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems and devices.

b.Provide comprehensive assessments of individual's needs to help determine the most appropriate technology, and participate in device trials, equipment fittings, adjustments, programming, and training after technology is acquired.

c.Provide demonstrations, set-up (including but not limited to installation, programming and troubleshooting), and training on AAC devices for patient and their care team.

d.Work with and communicate effectively with relevant partners in the provision process such as suppliers, manufacturing representatives, other therapists from patient's care team, and other key stakeholders.

e.Provide required clinic documentation and reports in a timely manner.

f.Provide required documentation on device demonstrations and equipment loans, when required, in a timely manner.

g.Assist with program development and process improvement.

h.Maintain professionalism and responsibility for productivity and quality service delivery.

i.Assist with program development and delivery of clinical intervention.

j.Analyze needs and seek funding to support business services regarding accessibility for individuals with disabilities.

2.Teaching

a.Teach guest lectures or small modules in BIOE courses, as directed by BIOE faculty.

b.Provide professional development around treatment and strategy implementation with children and adults who have a range of disabilities and use assistive technology.

c.Supervise and/or support students in assistive technology related coursework offered by BIOE department and as directed by Dr. Bodine.

3.Research

a.Provide clinical expertise to support engineering research projects as requested by Dr. Bodine.

b.Engage in other research activities including collecting and analyzing relevant data as directed by Dr. Bodine.

c.Collect data on all service events (training, technical assistance and consultation).

d.Participate in assigned research protocols, collecting and analyzing relevant data.

e.Support the research team in reporting results and compiling publications.

Qualifications

Research Instructor:

*A Master's Degree in Speech Pathology

*Minimum of 5 years clinical or academic experience

*Licensed Speech Language Pathologist

*A strong background in assistive technology and disability is required

*Specialty knowledge of AAC assessment, recommendations, and training techniques

Senior Research Instructor:

*A Master's Degree in Speech Pathology

*Minimum of 10 years clinical or academic experience

*Licensed Speech Language Pathologist

*A strong background in assistive technology and disability is required

*Specialty knowledge with AAC assessment, recommendations, and training techniques

Preferred Qualifications (All Ranks):

  • Clinical experience with assistive technology devices and services.
  • Clinical experience coding for patient visits across multiple insurance payers.
  • A minimum of five years of experience working with children and adults with disabilities.
  • Specialty knowledge and skill related to computer access for individuals with disabilities.
  • Specialty knowledge in funding opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
  • Experience with ergonomics; computer access, smart-home technologies, and/or worksite accommodation.
  • Prior experience in research and/or teaching.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (All Ranks):

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty and staff.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and operate within HIPAA guidelines.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of augmentative and alternative communication systems and devices.
  • Ability to work efficiently and comply with required clinical appointment documentation deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently with excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to meet productivity expectations.
  • Ability to work well with diverse populations, commitment to diversity, experience working with cultures other than their own, experience interacting with communities of color.
  • Experience incorporating diverse perspectives and fostering an inclusive environment.

Salary Range:

Research Instructor Salary Range:$67,500 - $71,667

Senior Research Instructor Salary Range: $73,333 - $88,333

The salary of the finalist(s) selected forthis role willbe set based on avariety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Theabovesalaryrange(orhiringrange)representstheUniversity'sgoodfaithandreasonableestimate of the range of possible compensation atthe time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
