JOB SUMMARY
The campus seeks an experienced, highly motivated fundraising professional to oversee our operations in the Northern California region, specifically focusing on the Greater Bay Area, to serve as the Leadership Giving Officer. Under the supervision of the Director of Annual Giving, the Leadership Giving Officer will play a key role in helping to plan and develop a program to grow the pool of donors in the $1,000 to $50,000 range. This position will work closely with development staff across the campus to build the University's philanthropic pipeline through meaningful cultivation of leadership annual donors. This position can be fully remote for the appropriate candidate.
APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
Budgeted Salary: $35.92 - $40.71/hour. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.
Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. The salary shown above is the budgeted amount the University reasonably expects to pay and the salary extended should not exceed this posted amount.

JOB DUTIES
70% - Donor and Prospect Management
  • Manage a portfolio of individuals capable of making gifts above $1,000, with an emphasis on those who can give between $5,000 and $50,000. Gift Officer is responsible for moving these prospects efficiently and effectively through all stages of discovery, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship by developing appropriate individual strategies.
  • Meet clearly defined annual metrics in the areas of substantive contacts, qualification efforts, proposals asked, and dollar goals.
  • Work closely with the Annual Giving team to develop a strategy for growing Leadership.
  • Giving through communications, events, mass appeals and partnership with Chancellor's Associates program.
  • Analyze metrics and key performance indicators to ensure best practices and identify areas of opportunity.
  • Work collaboratively with the Prospect Development team and others to help build a pipeline of qualified prospects.
20% - Strategic Planning, Program Design, and Implementation
  • Develop creative, multi-channel strategies to expand the base of annual donors in the $1,000 to $50,000 range.
  • Support and participate in alumni, friend, and parent cultivation and outreach activities, site visits, and special events in support of Leadership Giving.
  • In coordination with development staff, develop plans and lead efforts to systematically identify and qualify large groups of potential donors.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a myriad of people of differing temperaments, socioeconomic backgrounds, and political/ethical philosophies, and to be tactful, diplomatic, and attentive in personal contacts with donors, external constituencies, and university personnel.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, including an ability to prioritize projects and work flow, meet deadlines for simultaneous projects , and make decisions using independent judgment.
  • Excellent analytical skills to comprehensively analyze fund-raising issues and performance in a multifaceted way and possess strong problem-solving skills to develop innovative solutions to complex issues.
  • An innovative approach to work tasks, with the ability to be flexible and creatively solve problems as they arise. Tolerance for ambiguity and ability to pivot work flow quickly when needed.
  • Experience with donor data bases, including running reports and reviewing analytics. Advanced computer skills, preferably in a mixed Macintosh-Windows environment, with knowledge of common software programs, e.g., Word, Excel, Access, FileMaker Pro, etc..
  • Experience and knowledge of fund-raising principles, including abilities to conceptualize, analyze, and implement multi-channel fund-raising strategies.
  • Experience with the principles and ethics of professional fundraising, preferably in an educational institution, with demonstrated abilities to successfully identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors to secure private gift support.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge and understanding of academic administration, academic and research goals, and external relations goals of a research institution and academic unit.
