Job Summary

Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced research professional with a full understanding of in-depth statistical analyses and/or research software programming techniques. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.We are seeking a full-time Data Analyst to become an integral part of our team. We offer a positive environment with dedicated colleagues in the Department of Neurology at UCSF. The Research Data Analyst will support epidemiologic studies, which aim to collect data from people with Parkinson's disease (PD), care partners, people at risk of developing PD, and other research volunteers for the ultimate goal of informing therapeutic studies and ending Parkinson's disease. The Research Data Analyst will have the following responsibilities: 1) develop data management and analytic plans; 2) conduct primary statistical analyses, including multivariate and longitudinal data analyses; 3) develop data dictionaries; and 4) provide oversight, training, and support in statistical and data-related principles to other employees.This candidate will also be integral in designing and implementing data collection instruments, developing data quality control measures to identify and resolve data discrepancies, combining and processing datasets from multiple platforms, and providing summary reports, charts, tables, and other visual aids that are continuously updated as new data are entered, play an integral role in the design of new research studies and databases, and managing data flows for large, mainly web-based epidemiologic studies. These studies involve large, collaborative databases.Secondary responsibilities would include interpreting and writing up results for publication, assisting with progress reports; and engaging in the grant-writing process including preparation of preliminary analyses.We are seeking a candidate who enjoys mixing web-based technology with medicine and liaising with multiple study collaborators. The Research Data Analyst should show a strong interest in clinical research and a desire to contribute to the state of knowledge on the risk factors for Parkinson's disease. The Research Data Analyst must be able to multi-task, problem-solve, and apply creative solutions to new and unexpected situations with limited supervision.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however, a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and a minimum, of three years of experience or equivalent experience/training
  • Thorough knowledge of research function.
  • Thorough skills associated with statistical analysis and systems programming.
  • Thorough skills in analysis and consultation.
  • Research skills at a level to evaluate alternate solutions and develop recommendations.
  • Proficiency in statistics, data analysis, research methods, and statistical packages such as SPSS, SAS, and/or R, or a related package
  • Proficiency in applications such as MS Excel and PowerPoint for presenting summary reports, charts, tables, and other visual aids.
  • Self-motivated, positive attitude, strong attention to detail
  • Process-oriented with great documentation skills
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, and administrative skills
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Ability to work independently, complete projects promptly, and prioritize multiple projects to ensure completion of essential tasks by deadlines.
  • Candidates must possess the required qualifications by the time of hire

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Skills in project management.
  • Familiarity with neurological disorders
  • Familiarity with survey programming software such as Qualtrics, Redcap, or other survey tools
  • Familiarity with the development of relational databases
  • Strong organizational, decision-making, and leadership abilities
  • Outstanding communication and people skills
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
  • Prior experience working with large and complex datasets
  • Skills in project management
  • Working knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs. These may include but are not limited to, Box / Google Drive, Outlook, Zoom, Python, tools such as Slack, Github, and Basecamp, connecting to servers/cloud computing systems
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local research regulations and guidelines, and research practice methods in a laboratory or clinical setting
  • Experience applying the following regulations and guidelines: Good Clinical Practice Guidelines, Health Information and Accountability Act (HIPAA), The Protection of Human Research Subjects, Committee on Human Research (CHR) regulations for recruitment and consent of research subjects, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
