University of California San Francisco is Hiring an Assistant Unit Director - AdultTransplant Near San Francisco, CA

Involved in ensuring optimal patient outcomes through effective leadership and /or provision of patient care delivery in assigned nursing unit(s) or area(s). Promotes environment for a shared voice in nursing practice and exchange of ideas to continually improve nursing and patient care outcomes. Accountable for the quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness of patient care. Consults and collaborates with other health care professionals to coordinate the management of patient care. Serves as a resource to staff, physicians, students and others.
Supervises staff involved in providing clinical patient care. Assists in ensuring the quality of patient care delivery in a specific patient care area and serves as a role model for professional nursing practice. Assists with the administration and management of personnel, fiscal, and material resources on a 24 hour basis. May assume full responsibility for the unit in delegated areas and in the absence of the manager.

Department Description

  • Location: 9th floor of the Long Building, UCSF Medical Center at 505 Parnassus Ave, San Francisco, California
  • Bed #: 36
  • Patient Population: Pre-operative and post-operative transplant recipient and donor patients - Kidney, Pancreas, Simultaneous Kidney-Pancreas, Allo-Islets, Auto-islet, Liver, simultaneous kidney-liver. Organs are obtained from cadavers, as well as living related and altruistic donors. Within this unit you will find interdisciplinary coordination with teams of physicians, nurses, Nurse Practitioners, transplant coordinators, case managers, social workers, nutritionists, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and physical therapists. In addition there are opportunities to teach and participate in ground-breaking research. UCSF Medical Center performs more or less 400 kidney transplants and 200 Liver transplants per annum.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum three (3) years of recent (within the past 5 years) progressively responsible clinical RN experience with inpatient adult/geriatric cardiac, vascular, thoracic and/or transplant population
  • Recent administrative oversight in an inpatient environment; for example, previous experience as an Assistant Nurse Manager, charge nurse or other similar role
  • Demonstrated skills to effectively supervise clinicians and to manage the complex workflow and multiple priorities involved with a patient care unit.
  • In depth knowledge of patient care clinical standards and care delivery, systems, external regulations and internal policies.
  • Strong knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document human resources matters and performance, and to provide input to decision-making on human resources matters.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply effective solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective information exchange and problem solving with all levels of management and staff, consultants and outside agencies.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to train and mentor subordinates, to convey complex clinical and technical information in a clear and concise manner, and to prepare and present a variety of reports, documentation, analyses, and project proposals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of business software and specialized applications and data management systems used in nursing units or departments.
  • Clinical Nurse 3 competency level
  • Knowledge of Lean principles, bedside shift report, hourly rounding
  • Master's Degree
  • ANCC certification in Progressive Care Nurse, Nurse Executive, or Nurse Executive Advanced, National certification for the specialty

License/Certification

  • Registered Nurse in the State of California
  • CPR/BLS
  • ACLS
