University of California Los Angeles is Hiring a Director - Master of Science in Genetic Counseling Program Near Los Angeles, CA

The Department of Human Genetics at UCLA invites applications to fill a position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in the Adjunct Faculty series in the M.S. in Genetic Counseling program. The M.S. in Genetic Counseling program, fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling, is housed within the David Geffen School of Medicine, Department of Human Genetics. The position title (Program Director), faculty rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full Adjunct Professor) and salary will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. Candidates should be highly collaborative and are expected to contribute to the educational, research, and public service missions of the program. This is a full-time position.

The major criterion for appointment for faculty in the Adjunct Faculty series is evidence of Teaching, Research and creative work, Professional competence and activity, and University and public service. The successful candidate will contribute to the teaching mission of the program, the research mission via participation on capstone committees, to program leadership and administration, and to University and public service. The Program Director is responsible for maintaining program compliance with accreditation standards; Developing, reviewing, and revising the program’s strategic plan; Providing academic advising, as well as monitoring, evaluating, and remediating student performance; Long-term planning to ensure the program’s fiscal stability; Serving as the primary contact for communication with ACGC; Communicating with the ACGC about compliance with the standards; Incorporation of principles of diversity, inclusion, equity, and justice; and Fostering an inclusive environment where all individuals are valued and supported.

Candidates must have a master’s degree in genetic counseling and ABGC certification. Candidates must meet all qualification requirements mandated by the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling which includes having at least 5 years of experience as a certified genetic counselor, a minimum of three of which must be in a patient-facing role (clinic or research); Having been the course instructor/instructor of record for at least six credit hours of post-secondary education; and if becoming a program director for the first time having completed at least 10 hours of training/coursework in curriculum design, assessment, evaluation, educational andragogy, or principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice within the last 10 years; if becoming a program director for the first time must have provided fieldwork supervision for at least five genetic counseling graduate students for a minimum of 500 total contact hours in the last 10 years.

We are particularly interested in candidates who also have an advanced degree in a field that can inform the discipline and practice of genetic counseling, have leadership experience, and a record of achievement in developing, implementing, and assessing innovative educational approaches.
