Position Summary:

Under general supervision, the Assistant Director of Research, Post-Award will oversee the post-award management across the academic units in the Program in Public Health. The incumbent will oversee the research administrators and develop processes and protocols to improving workflow efficiency. The incumbent will oversee and manage the process of post-award grant management, reconciliation, forecasting and preparing reports for various accounts (contracts, grants, gifts, discretionary). Major duties include restricted and unrestricted funds management, contracts and grants budget monitoring, Public Health Centers budgeting, reconciliation of divisional accounts with accounting ledgers and financial account transfers. Develops and maintains systems to assure conformity with UC accounting policies. Utilize KFS and DSS to generate reports, ensure data is accurately reported in the system. Audit and analyze data for assigned projects. The incumbent will coordinate with the Director of Finance on financial matters pertaining to post-award administration and program centers including payroll, accounts, reports, reconciliation, and program related trainings. The incumbent is responsible for all aspects of proposal post award administration and management. Working Pre-award knowledge is preferred. Incumbent manages in-house financial reports for use by the faculty. The duties of this position require interaction with program officers and sponsors at federal, state and industry funding agencies as well as counterparts from the UCI Sponsored Projects, UCI contract and grant accounting office, and various other UC Campus departments. Incumbent is responsible for providing specific direction to faculty and staff to assure compliance with recent revisions to contract and grant costing principals. This requires knowledge in agency specific contracts and grants policies; material management to include purchasing and equipment acquisition principles; personnel/payroll policies and procedures; gift administration; recharge principles; research subcontracting concepts; indirect cost principles; policies and practices related to Uniform Guidance/UG, FDP, Federal CAS requirements. Ability to step in and support PIs during periods of high volume. Ad hoc duties as needed. This position reports to the Associate Dean/Director of Research, with a dotted line reporting to the Director of Finance. The expected pay range for this position is $81,900-116,200, within the full salary range of $81,900-150,500.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $81,900.00 - $150,500.00 (Annual Salary). The Full Salary Range for the salary grade this position is assigned to is $81,900.00 - $150,500.00 (Annual Salary).

Required:
  • 5-7 years
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Extensive knowledge of program administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.
  • Ability to manage high volume and complex transactions.
  • Ability to perform highly complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
  • Demonstrated advanced competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports.
  • Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization and communication skills; and a customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas.
  • Maintains knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply sponsor, institutional and departmental policies.
  • Knowledge of current compliance regulations in all areas of research administration. Demonstrated advanced knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles.
  • Experience with all types of award mechanisms, including grants, contracts, subcontracts, and cooperative agreements.
  • Advanced knowledge of effective grant funding processes, procedures and techniques
Preferred:
  • Graduate degree or equivalent years of experience preferred
  • Full knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulation, Code of Federal Regulations, sponsor-specific policies, intellectual property policy, conflict of interest requirements, publication rights, application of indirect cost rates and other complex concepts in research administration. Ability to interpret policy for others.
  • Advanced ability to create and train grant writing and other communications skills in a variety of styles to ensure securing grant funding required.
