The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of California, Davis invites applicants for a Unit-18 Lecturer position to teach six to eight courses in Japanese language in the 2024-25 academic year beginning 10/1/2024. Primary duties include instruction in Japanese at various levels and to hold office hours each week. The department will give preference to candidates with college teaching experience in the U.S., thorough knowledge of current second-language pedagogy, strong skills in written Japanese, and the ability to apply modern technology to classroom teaching. Assignment of classes, hours of instruction, and office hours are at the discretion of the department. Classes are held Monday-Friday, normally between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. A reasonable estimate for this position is $66,259 - $72,404. This appointment is renewable, contingent on department teaching needs and demonstration of excellence in teaching.

An M.A. or above in second-language pedagogy, Japanese linguistics, or another relevant field; native proficiency in Japanese and native or near-native proficiency in English; a demonstrable record of excellence in Japanese language teaching.

The department will give preference to candidates with college teaching experience in the U.S., good knowledge of current developments in second language pedagogy, strong skills in written Japanese, and the ability to apply modern technology to classroom teaching.
