University of California Davis is Hiring an EPI-CAL Program Staff Research Associate 1 (SRA 1) Near Davis, CA

The EPI-CAL Program Staff Research Associate supports the interdisciplinary EPI-CAL program, a California collaborative network that aims to promote data-driven care and track outcomes for those experiencing early psychosis. The EPI-CAL program includes statewide evaluation of established early psychosis programs (large scale services research) and oversight and management of outcomes data collection by EPI-CAL Early Psychosis programs utilizing a custom eHealth application (Beehive). The Associate’s primary role is to implement and support data collection and management for programs across California that are utilizing the Beehive application and provide clinical services support individuals experience early psychosis psychotic illness. The Associate also participates in testing and development of the Beehive application and facilitate communication between clinical programs and the EPI-CAL research team to report feedback related to Beehive implementation. To do this, the Associate closely collaborates with and provide training to program directors and staff, including clinicians, medical doctors, and support staff at early psychosis programs across the state. The position may require the travel sometimes (via car or plane) throughout the state if clinical programs require in-person support. Other activities may include collecting qualitative or survey data directly from a diverse population of community partners, such as focus groups. The Associate may be responsible for engaging English and non-English speaking clients and family members/support persons (Spanish preferred) and assist in their participation in these additional research activities. Successful candidates will be involved in aspects of publishable research activities in the lab, which may include of literature review, study design and implementation, data analysis and presentation, manuscript preparation, and conference submissions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, psychobiology, neuroscience, or a related field
  • Experience in human subjects research (e.g., participant testing), preferably with adolescents and young adults ages (12-25)
  • Experience working in a team-oriented research environment
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft applications including Microsoft Word and Powerpoint, electronic calendaring and e-mail software (Outlook)
  • Advanced knowledge of spreadsheet software such as SPSS or Excel to create and edit data, manage data sets in spreadsheet, perform mathematical tasks accurately using formulas, and create documents
  • Ability to interact with various patient populations and conduct research testing
  • Knowledge of statistics and applications of statistics while organizing and analyzing behavioral data.
  • Good oral and written communication skills to effectively work with physicians, patients, and families, clinical staff, research staff and other health care professionals
  • Ability to manage multiple large tasks simultaneously while maintaining clear organization
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced, goal-based environment
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision


Preferred Qualifications

Previous statistics experience and/or coursework

  • Bilingual language skills – oral & written (Spanish preferred)
  • Understanding of clinical diagnoses according to DSM-V, semi-structured clinic interview methods to gather psychological data, and psychosocial stressors related to psychiatric conditions (can be based on coursework or volunteer experiences)
  • Previous experience working with adolescents and young adults with psychiatric disorders (can be based on volunteer experiences)
  • Direct personal experience in treatment for psychosis
