Position description

The University of California, Davis, Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is recruiting for a Assistant/Associate Professor in the clinician/teaching series to serve as a teaching attending in its Child Behavioral Health Clinic (CBHC) and MIND Institute Clinic. The CBHC is an academic outpatient psychiatry clinic serving the greater Northern California region and a diverse patient population. Our clinical staff consists of psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, psychologists, and trainees. The MIND Institute Massie Family Clinic specializes in working with individuals with neurodevelopmental disabilities and their families. The MIND Institute is especially known for research and clinical therapies developed for: Autism, Fragile X Syndrome, Down Syndrome, Attention-Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder, and 22q11.2 Deletion Syndrome. MIND Institute clinical staff consists of child and adolescent psychiatrists, developmental pediatricians, psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, nurses, and trainees.

We take a team-based approach to mental health treatment and work closely with the rest of the health system including primary care physicians and medical specialists. This position will involve includes a combination of direct clinical care at the CBHC, direct clinical care at the MIND Institute Clinic, and supervising child and adolescent psychiatry fellows, general psychiatry residents, medical students, and nurse practitioners. Time is allocated for didactic teaching, case conferences, and supervision. In addition, the applicant will engage in scholarly or creative activities derived from and in support of their clinical teaching, professional, and service activities. Opportunities for involvement in established research programs may be available. Appointment at the Assistant or Associate level is contingent upon experience in this area.

The incumbent will provide teaching and supervision of medical students, residents, and fellows, participate in appropriate professional societies and educational organizations, provide service to department and school committees. This individual should also have ability to foster collegiality and work collaboratively in a diverse environment and adhere to University policies and procedures.

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences has approximately 65 residents in six residency training programs and 90 faculty and staff psychiatrists and psychologists at the UC Davis Medical Center and the Northern California VA Health System. Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
  • MD
  • Board certification in general psychiatry
  • California Medical license (or eligibility for licensure in the State of California).
Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
  • Completion of a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship
Preferred qualifications (other preferred, but not required, qualifications for the position)
  • Board certification in child and adolescent psychiatry is preferred and highly desired
  • Teaching and supervisory experience of residents, fellows, and medical students is preferred
  • Experience supervising adult psychiatry residents/fellows, general psychiatry residents, and medical students
