University of California Davis is Hiring an ANML CARE HOSP SUPV 1 (Small Animal Emergency And Patient Care Supervisor) Near Davis, CA

Independent of supervision, provide emergency and critical care nursing to small animal patients and technical support to clinicians, staff and students. Perform as a shift supervisor and assist in the day-to-day operations of the Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care Service (ECC) and Small Animal Patient Care Services (SAPCS). Provide quasi-instruction to students. Provide support to other VMTH departments as assigned. Provide facility maintenance.

RECRUITMENT
PERIOD ONE MONTH: Applicants will be screened after two weeks; and then on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the removal date.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Maneuver/lift equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Handle animals weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Contact with animals, including restraint of animals (sometimes fractious) as required.
  • Ability to remain standing for long periods of time.
  • Positions self (bending, stooping) to care for patients low to the ground.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Must be able to work occasional overtime; work weekends, evenings, holidays and variable hours. In emergency or illness situations, may work alternate shift.
  • Work under Medical Surveillance procedures and review in accordance with Federal and State Laws and Regulations and University Policy.
  • Work under regular exposure to zoonotic diseases, anesthesia, cleaning chemicals and exposure to radioactive patients.
  • May require the use of a respirator during decontamination cleaning.
  • May be required to wear protective clothing for extended periods of time including: gown, coveralls, gloves, masks, face shields, goggles, sleeves and head covers.
  • May require working with or around areas with sick animals, hazardous materials, and/or infectious diseases, and distraught clients.
  • Work in other related areas on an as needed basis.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required
:
  • Experience in a veterinary hospital environment in a supervisory role.
  • Experience to independently provide intense moment to moment monitoring and reassessment of emergent, critically ill, or anesthetized patients.
  • Experience working in a small animal clinic as an emergency room technician.
  • Experience using patient monitoring equipment.

Preferred
:
  • Current California Registered Veterinary Technician License.
  • Skill in the placement of a multi-lumen catheter in either a peripheral or central vein and utilize proper technique(s) to secure and maintain the catheter.
  • Good interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to interact with a diverse group of people to include clients, clinician’s students and staff.
