University of California Davis is Hiring an ALUMNI EXTERNAL REL SUPV 1 (Director of Annual Programs) Near Davis, CA

Under the general supervision of the External Relations Manager at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, the Director of Annual Programs manages and oversees the annual giving programs through internal channels and partners with the university’s Development and Alumni Relations (DEVAR) teams to generate philanthropic support for the school’s mission, goals, and objectives. This position is responsible for the full range of annual development programs and has responsibility for other external relations functions, such as events, volunteer coordination and management, and other marketing activities, when applicable.
Supervises annual campaign program operations to ensure compliance with departmental or organizational policies, procedures, and defined internal controls. Ensures accountability and stewardship of department resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental standards and procedures.
Plans, organizes and supervises the work of subordinate employees; provides for their training and development; manages performance and conducts performance appraisals; documents and handles disciplinary issues; interviews, selects and hires staff with appropriate approvals.
Involves activities associated with overseeing, providing leadership, and administering gift processing, gift stewardship, direct mail, online giving, and marketing and communications for large and small school annual campaigns, which includes but is not limited to, Give Day, employee giving month, class campaigns, scholarship appeals, and special direct mail appeals, etc. Oversee all annual fund appeals and stewardship for both SVM in-house direct mail and coordinate with the Development and Alumni Relations (DEVAR) Annual and Special Gifts Program (ASGP) team to conduct SVM and university direct mail to targeted audiences.
Work with the central development office to ensure that all aspects of the school’s advancement program are consistent with University policies and the policies, practices, and standards of UC Davis University Development.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to stand for extended periods of time during events.

Must be able to work in an area with frequent interruptions from traffic, conversations, & office equipment, etc.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
In an environment characterized by frequent public & internal contact, constantly evolving priorities & spontaneous decision making, adaptability is required. Provides admin, analytical & organizational support in all areas of fundraising for SVM.
Maintain office performance standards regarding regular attendance and punctuality; current California Driver’s License required; non-smoking work area; occasional overtime required to meet operational needs; work in a shared office area with constant traffic and noise from office equipment, telephone conversations, computer printers, etc.; must be willing to use personal vehicle for work-related travel (expenses reimbursed per policy).

QUALIFICATIONS

Required
:
Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Supervisory skills sufficient to train, delegate, and monitor staff, students, and volunteers.

Organizational, strategic planning, project management, and leadership skills.

Solid negotiation skills and skills in problem recognition/avoidance/conflict resolution, mentoring and staff development, human resources policies, and procedures relating to management responsibilities.

Leadership/management skills including skills to lead, direct, mentor, evaluate and motivate staff.

Thorough knowledge of developing program messaging that communicates an organization’s vision and mission, goals, objects, programs, and achievements that inspire deeper alumni, donor, or client involvement.
Thorough written, verbal, and interpersonal communications, tact, and political acumen to effectively communicate professional correspondence, donor communications, and other materials.

Preferred
:

Experience with AggieTravel, AggieBuy, DaFIS, Kuali Financial System, Advance Web, GREAT, Michelangelo, and FunDriver.

Experience providing “gold-standard” customer service to diverse populations.
Solid skills to effectively and appropriately represent and advocate for the school and campus with a variety of diverse audiences.

Advanced computer skills, including all Microsoft Office software and Adobe cloud software.

Thorough research, analytical and critical thinking skills, including sound judgment and decision-making skills and skill to correctly identify real and potential problems, advising management as required, proposing effective strategic resolutions, and managing budgets and tracking expenditures.
