Departmental Overview
In the Division of Student Affairs and under the Residential Student Services Programs portfolio, Cal Dining is a self-operated dining program focused on culinary excellence, social responsibility and supporting the living/learning environment of our customers. With more than 12,000 meal plan holders, Cal Dining serves over 5 million meals per year in 14 facilities with a combination of residential "all you care to eat" dining, retail "a la carte" dining, training table, early childhood education meal production and catering. Cal Dining services the campus seven days per week, seventeen hours per day employing 450 full and part time staff and approximately 400 Cal student workers across multiple locations.

Responsibilities
Applies professional training and development skills to resolve and address a wide range of training issues and needs assessments among various Cal Dining areas. Receives general instructions on new training program assignments, projects, and initiatives. Normally receives little direction on ongoing training assignments. Collaborates with Central Shared Services as well as the Cal Dining management team for engagement and programming. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate actions. Works in a collaborative manner with a diverse organization community to administer, organize, and conduct existing employee training programs and may assist in the development of new programs. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for delivering training and development programs. May consult with instructors to determine methods for delivery of course content and effective use of technology. Works in a collaborative manner with a diverse staff community in Cal Dining to administer, organize and conduct existing employee training programs and develop or coordinate the development of new programs specifically for Cal Dining, e.g.: on-boarding of new employees, production & service standards, safety & sanitation, annual employee trainings, etc. Works closely with campus departments in the development and coordination of staff development and engagement programs to ensure a clear understanding of job expectations and standards. Monitors training results through employee progress and maintains records of training attendance to determine program effectiveness. Conducts needs analysis and evaluates the effectiveness of training programs. Works in a collaborative manner with others in a diverse environment and at all levels in the organization to prioritize work assignments, conduct analysis and develop recommendations. Monitors training results through employee progress, customer service feedback, and through in-the-moment observation. Maintains records of training attendance to determine program effectiveness. Prepares, completes, and submits documentation for new employees, including new employee packets, account activation forms, etc. Gathers and analyzes training resource data, prioritizes work assignments, and develops training program recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills. Develops training materials in various media (e.g. manuals, videos, etc.) to ensure consistent application of standards and procedures. Works under general supervision and receives general instructions regarding ongoing training work, with detailed instructions provided on new training projects, assignments, and initiatives. Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Working knowledge of the functional area and understanding of how training may impact other areas. Working knowledge of delivering training programs and of other areas of human resources. Familiar with current training programs and trends. Good skills in delivering training programs. Working knowledge of conducting a needs assessment. Good analytical skills to understand how the business needs can be addressed through the design and delivery of training programs. Good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and good presentation skills. Working knowledge of organizational policies and procedures. Working knowledge of adult learning theories and education methodologies.
Education/Training:
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications
Licenses/Certification:
ServSafe Certified. ServSafe Trainer.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $29.50 - $40.52.
This is a 100% full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits. This position is non-exempt and paid bi-weekly.
