Departmental Overview
As a part of UDAR, Advancement Information Services (AIS) develops and delivers the primary business data and systems that support the work of UC Berkeley's centralized and decentralized fundraising activities. AIS oversees several interrelated information technology systems and tools, including the Cal Advancement Data System (CADS), the database and applications in which advancement professionals research and record fundraising activity. AIS encompasses five units: Data Quality and Management, Information Technology, Planning and Analysis, Information Strategy and Analytics, and Helpdesk. This Senior Business Systems Analyst will join the Information Strategy and Analytics team, which is transforming how advancement teams across campus use information and analytic tools to drive strategies and operations. In the midst of the University's most ambitious fundraising campaign ever, information delivery and analysis is one of the most important components of our shared success.
Position Overview
The Technical Writer is a technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field and recognized expertise in specific areas; problem-solving frequently requires analysis of unique issues / problems without precedent and / or structure. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy.
The Technical Writer uses advanced operational concepts and objectives to resolve highly complex issues. Regularly works on documentation where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for communicating and documenting with appropriate audiences. Primarily works on projects with broad impact across the function, department, and organization. Develops and oversees the implementation of new communications and documentation.

Responsibilities
Develops and coordinates program documentation and communications; produces, in concert with teams, detailed system documentation, functional guides, data dictionaries, developer standards, and technical specifications. Develops and engages with business analysts, developers, product managers, and functional users to elicit articulation of and understand documentation requirements. Proposes, leads, and successfully interacts with non-technical users and experienced technical staff to reach consensus and clarity in documentation. Researches and summarizes best practices in field. Manages technical content versioning and consistency. Collaborates with partners to coordinate the development and implementation of new easy-to-understand end-user tutorials for a variety of applications. Yes 5% Guides, directs, and analyzes current content and improves as necessary. Participates in professional development to increase skillset.
Required Qualifications
Advanced knowledge of common organizational-specific and other computer application programs.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and influence, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
Education/Training:
Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced project management skills.
Thorough knowledge of organizational or initiative processes, protocols and procedures.
Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
Advanced knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques.
Advanced analytical / problem-solving skills.
Knowledge of Google suite, Jira, and Confluence.
Technical Writing Certification.
Salary & Benefits
This is a two-year contract, exempt, monthly paid position, eligible for UC benefits.
This is a hybrid remote-friendly position, with the flexibility of up to 100% remote eligibility.
