Departmental Overview
This position is part of a team responsible for the design and implementation of communications for Student Affairs' initiatives that serve the entire UC Berkeley campus. This team works collaboratively with central campus offices (Public Affairs, University Relations), respective functional owners from a variety of departments (Undergraduate Admissions, Financial Aid, Registrar, Dean of Students, Residential and Student Service Programs including house and dining and hospitality), and partner offices (academic units, Administration and Finance) to successfully launch and sustain Student Affairs communications initiatives.

Responsibilities
Work with the Student Affairs Communications team to create and distribute engaging digital content - text, photo, graphic and video - to enhance Berkeley's social media/digital presence and campaigns and increase constituent engagement. Assist with campaign/technology research, conducting interviews, and developing multimedia assets (videos/animation/photos/graphics) and written content to be used on social media (and other digital platforms, as needed). Execute communications for Student Affairs social media accounts, e.g. TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, Discord and other emerging social media platforms, in alignment with the public relations and marketing strategic plans, and the university's brand and mission. Maintain a robust content calendar. Support social media strategist in managing the student social media team, assigning tasks such as content creation, metric reporting and content review. Use native and third-party social media monitoring tools to evaluate content performance against the divisional/campus social media content and public relations and marketing strategies, as well as industry best- practices. Create key metric reports. Adjust tactics or approach as needed to achieve objectives. Collaborate with Student Affairs partners to identify specific communications needs and work with team members (designers, writers, web developers) as needed to complete tasks. Develop successful relationships with faculty, students, staff, administrators and alumni to execute social media, new media and additional communications content. Stay abreast of emerging social media trends and technologies, evaluate potential for divisional communications, and implement when appropriate. Assist with critical communications on social media channels, as needed, while maintaining strict confidentiality.
Required Qualifications
2-3 years professional work experience in a marketing, communications, or related office, performing social media and other multimedia content creation. Experience with content creation for social media and digital platforms. Working knowledge of concepts and principles of social media, branding and marketing. Demonstrated working knowledge of various social media (i.e. TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, Discord, LinkedIn, Snapchat, etc.). Experience contributing or managing social media accounts on behalf of an organization or business. Demonstrated working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere and Canva. Basic experience and knowledge of photography/videography, animation and motion graphics. Knowledge of the fundamentals of writing, grammar and syntax, with a focus on best practices of writing for social media platforms. Strong written, verbal, interpersonal communication skills. Ability to engage, work and collaborate with students, staff, faculty, administrators and affiliates from diverse backgrounds and communities - particularly those in underrepresented communities. Strong organizational, analytical, critical thinking and time management skills; ability to multitask, work independently under supervision, and adapt to office needs. Strong attention to detail. Skill to maintain confidentiality. Ability to come to campus periodically (approximately 75% remote / 25% in-person) to capture content, conduct interviews, attend meetings and perform other duties as needed.
Education/Training:
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of other animation tools such as After Effects, Animate or Procreate is a plus. Working knowledge of the campus, its achievements, mission, vision, goals, objectives, programs and infrastructure is a plus. Experience assisting or running an influencer or street team program is a plus. Ability to converse and produce content with Spanish-speaking students, staff, faculty, and administrators is a plus.
Salary & Benefits
This is a 100% full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits. This position is non-exempt and paid bi-weekly. Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The budgeted hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $29.50 - $34.96. This is a hybrid position, eligible for 75% remote capability.
