Departmental Overview
Real Estate (RE) is a professional business unit within VC Administration/Capital Strategies, which delivers real estate, services within the campus and the broader Bay Area of Northern California. RE has overall responsibility for managing a program that optimizes the utilization of its off-campus real estate assets to further the facilities goals and financial objectives of the Berkeley Campus. RE develops plans, policies, procedures and standards for delivery of real estate services within VC Administration/Capital Strategies and the broader campus. The office manages real estate sales, purchases, joint ventures, leases and development opportunities on behalf of the campus.

Responsibilities
Directs, organizes and implements high level real estate development and asset management services in consultation with the Real Estate Director and other senior campus and/or University administrative officers. Resolves complex issues/problems requiring specialized knowledge; identifies issues of importance to the Campus which frequently cross organizational lines and require research of applicable local, state and national regulations and law; develops appropriate analytical and procedural framework for addressing the issues on the Campus. Serve as technical advisor and assists senior management and campus departments on all real estate and related matters, exercising independent judgment and initiative, and rendering opinions and making decisions having long-term effects on and off campus quality of life. Prepares, negotiates and executes a variety of documents including agreements, memorandum of understanding, purchase and sale agreements, option agreements, all other agreements related to property acquisition and disposition; conducts negotiations with selected parties and with local land use jurisdictions; secures pertinent campus department support for agreements. Primary responsibility to manage existing development agreements including but limited ensuring compliance lease renewals for third party tenants, occupancy agreements with UC departments, approving capital improvements and expenditures, and managing the portfolio within approved budget. Ensures campus compliance with legal and regulatory requirements in a complex changing environment. Plans, develops and implements new programs and organizational structure changes required to implement new policy. Proactively engage and communicate with key stakeholders, including, stakeholders within UCB, UC Office of the President, the city of Berkeley, and business and community partners. Cultivate and maintain strategic partnerships with these constituents. Prepares formal and informal presentations for UCB administration, constituents, and meetings with Project stakeholders. Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Advanced knowledge/skills in real estate, city planning, architecture, or other real estate-related fields. Advanced written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including advanced political acumen. Expert written and verbal communication skills to work effectively with institutional, industrial and community partners including UC administration, the city of Berkeley, the public and others, to advance organizational objectives. Advanced analytical and project management skills. Understanding of the local, regional, and national markets for research campus demand and supply. Demonstrated ability to select, lead, direct and manage teams to execute complex program, planning and project management tasks with clear roles and responsibilities. Ability to generate strong collaborative relationships with clear authority and accountability. Ability to champion institutional-scale scientific and operational initiatives from conceptualization through completion. Expert knowledge in the planning and management of large, complex initiatives and programs. Must be innovative, entrepreneurial and knowledgeable about real estate development, financing complex capital projects and environmental design. Extensive experience developing strategic partnerships such as multi-agency frameworks, networks for collaborative programs and major real estate investment and development programs. Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Business Administration, City Planning (with a property development focus) or other real estate related field, or related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced knowledge of the campus, including its short- and long-range development plans, infrastructure and current, on-going and future design and construction plans. Knowledge of the campus, including vision, mission, organization, goals, achievements and short- and long-range strategic plans will be useful to the successful candidate.
Salary & Benefits
This is a 100% full-time (40 hrs a week) exempt career position, which is paid monthly and eligible for full UC Benefits. Annual salary is commensurate with experience within the range of $91,400.00 - $131,100.00.
