Position description
The Innovative Genomics Institute (IGI) is looking for a Postdoctoral Scholar whom will receive a Tory Burch Fellowship.

The Tory Burch Women Innovators Program at the IGI is committed to solving gender inequity in bio-entrepreneurship. The program supports those whose work involves the development of solutions for some of the world's greatest problems. The successful candidate will align with the IGI's mission of bridging revolutionary genome-editing and biotechnology tool development to affordable and accessible solutions in human health, climate, and agriculture and will work toward building a world where such technology is routinely applied to treat genetic disease, enable sustainable agriculture, and help achieve a carbon-neutral economy.
This Program is intended to:
  • Promote gender equity in science and entrepreneurship.
  • Encourage individuals who may not have considered becoming an entrepreneur to explore their ideas in a supportive community environment.
  • Support this early-stage participant as they develop their ideas such that they may be more prepared to enter later stage opportunities.
  • Enable the translation of genomics and biotechnology research into impactful solutions, including commercial applications.
  • Provide financial, scientific, and educational support to the participant and build a lively community of scientists, advisors, mentors, and entrepreneurs.
Applications are welcome from any areas of biomedical, agricultural, and climate change research. Particular interests include the following:
  • Genome engineering tools and applications
  • Biomedical research
  • Artificial intelligence as it relates to biomedical or agricultural research
  • Crop engineering and sustainability
  • Carbon neutral economy
  • Microbiome research
  • Therapeutic delivery technology
The Tory Burch Post Doc will engage in a variety of learning opportunities and networking events during the program. The faculty mentor will guide the Post Doc on scientific and business practices, introduce them to other advisors, and provide additional resources to them.
The participant may also receive additional funding support for materials, supplies, and the use of core facilities.

Qualifications Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
  • Ph.D. or equivalent international degree, or enrolled in Ph.D. or equivalent international degree-granting program at the time of application.
Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
  • Ph.D or equivalent international degree is required by the start date.
  • No more than four years of previous postdoctoral research experience.
  • Applicants cannot have previously been in a tenured or tenure track position.
Preferred qualifications
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting gender equity in the field of bio-entrepreneurship.
  • Record of success in research.
  • Alignment with the IGI's mission and demonstration of sound scientific principles and likelihood of product solution and success, market and societal impact.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States is required. This position does not allow for visa sponsorship.
  • Must be able to work in person at the UC Berkeley campus.

The goals of the 1-year project and the milestones needed to achieve these goals.
Present your idea and the opportunity for real-world impact through commercialization in a video of 2 minutes or less.
