Departmental Overview
Residential and Student Service Programs (RSSP) is part of the Division of Student Affairs under the direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor of RSSP. RSSP provides residential student housing, family housing, residential life programs, facilities services (maintenance/design, custodial, desk operations) self-operated dining services for undergraduate and graduate students and their families, as well as child care services for students, faculty, and staff. RSSP also conducts a year-round conference business, operates seven campus restaurants and manages several faculty apartments.
Position Summary
Involves supervising administrative services and managing residential unit(s) to ensure a safe environment that meets 24/7/365-day operation and residential life safety code and efficient and quality customer service for all residents. Includes but not limited to coordinating and supervising workflow related to receiving requests and coordinating multiple operational services for multiple residential buildings and apartments, including triage and track routine maintenance orders and emergency repair services, utility shutdowns, space reservations, space utilization recommendations, special mail service & package acceptance and distribution tracking for residents, and coordination of time-sensitive room/apartment turn-around at the seasons ends. General management includes long and short-range strategic planning in determining the mission and directing all activities of multi- disciplinary departments through subordinate management staff.

Responsibilities
Supervises front office operations and customer service. Responsible for quality and quantity of work. Plans, directly supervises, coordinates work activities, and evaluates workflow of staff often through customer service representative(s). Recruit, select, train, and supervise student staff. Assess facility's needs, budget monitoring, facilities, payroll, human resources, communications, informational technology, and safety. Maintains University and personnel records. Monitors budgets; gathers and analyzes financial and other resource data; prepares reports and analyses of operational needs, evaluates current and proposed services, etc., for internal/external constituencies' review and decision making. Recognizes operational processes and recommends improvements. Tracks work order completion and advocates for prioritization of work. Participates in the development and revision of standard operating procedures and guidelines for administrative/customer services providing quality student family services, participating where appropriate in services development. Develops and maintains performance metrics and standards to ensure excellent department performance. Monitoring, adjusting, correcting, and tracking staff performance, maximizing space utilization, budget and expenditure tracking responsibilities. Administers emergency preparedness for the Unit within collaboration with Residential Education staff. Respond and follow up to maintenance emergencies. Functions as a resource on issues such as researching complex financial discrepancies escalated customer service problems and vendor concerns. The incumbent is responsible for reporting and referring conflicts among residents and or staff, regarding any mediation or conflict resolution issues beyond the scope of the position. Assesses and recommends changes to maintain compliance with federal and state requirements and internal policies, providing analysis for complex operational projects. Researches budgetary concerns and approve payments on expenditures.
Required Qualifications
Working knowledge of policies and procedures relative to facilities maintenance, equipment, customer service, dispatch, building maintenance, safety and emergency preparedness, TMA, and StarRez applications. Good interpersonal skills, including active listening, critical thinking, persuasion/negotiation, mentoring, leadership/supervision, problem-solving, operations analysis, and quality control analysis. Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, both verbally and in writing. Familiarity with international multicultural environments. Solid organizational skills and ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes. Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality. Working knowledge in supervising facility maintenance and improvements along with building maintenance work to include one or more of the following: basic plumbing and pipefitting, carpentry, painting and plastering, service of machinery, electrical maintenance, and custodial. Broad knowledge of chemicals and custodial applications and safety practices. Strong budget skills and ability to operate in a fiscally responsible manner. Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications
Housing facilities experience in a university setting is highly preferred.
Salary & Benefits
This is a 100% full-time (40 hrs a week) exempt career position, which is paid monthly and eligible for UC Benefits.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $83,750.00 - $111,050.00.
