Berkeley Public Health (BPH) aims to improve population health,especially for the most vulnerable, through interdisciplinary collaborations, preeminent education, and transformational research. Established in 1943, BPH is a professional school on the UC Berkeley campus that comprises six academic divisions and nearly 30 research centers and programs. UC Berkeley's Online/On-campus Professional MPH (OOMPH) Program was the first on-line degree program on the Berkeley campus. It is a self- supporting degree program that receives no campus subsidy. It has grown steadily since opening and currently serves approximately 300 students annually. The School's ambition is both to continue to grow the OOMPH and similar programs that are self-supporting and generate revenue for the School as well as to use our on-line platforms to increase access to high- quality public health education in California and Globally. We envisage a future in which the boundaries between on-line and in person education blur and where the same tools are used in both. We also envisage that the tools will facilitate far greater collaboration among universities - whether within California or around the world - to the mutual benefit of the universities and their students.
The UC Berkeley School of Public Health invites applications for the position of Executive Director for the On-Campus/Online Professional MPH program (OOMPH). The Executive Director will provide overall strategy for the expansion and growth of our online educational programs, including program branding, marketing and recruitment, the development of new certificate and masters degree concentrations within the OOMPH program, expanded partnerships with other professional schools such as the Haas School of Business and the Goldman School of Public Policy, as well as partnering with the Assistant Dean for Education on the development on-line executive education programing. The Director will also be responsible for leading instructional innovation and quality across the breadth of our on-line offerings.
Designs and develops major program components, and administers the full range of the program's operational requirements. Works with faculty on formulating short-term planning and procedures. Develops and organizes on campus student events and other public forums. Works in close collaboration with the OOMPH Program Faculty Director to establish program agenda, funding, objectives.
The Executive Director will be responsible for managing the team that drives and monitors the day-to-day strategic execution of our OOMPH program. The Executive Director, an informed expert on trends in online education, will also assess, make recommendations for, and implement innovative models of online and hybrid learning; encourage the development of new online programs and modes of delivery locally and globally; serve as point of contact for campus partners; ensure effective service to online and distance students and faculty; assist with program quality assurance and continuous improvement; and ensure compliance with applicable accreditor guidelines and regulatory requirements.
The ideal incumbent will have financial and marketing savvy, strong credentials in online education, and solid people management skills adapted for a publicly funded university.

Responsibilities
Strategic Initiatives Direction:
Manages and scales online and revenue generating educational programs and initiatives in strategic alignment with the goals of the School and University. Leads branding and marketing of online education programs and initiatives. Oversees recruitment and admissions strategy, implementation and evaluation for online education programs. Directs and administers strategic initiatives with autonomy to manage programmatic and administrative activities. Provides leadership for strategic initiatives from ideation to implementation to operations, including the design and development of major program components. Assesses initiatives' effectiveness, and recommends changes to content, structures, and procedures accordingly. Guides and directs planning, which may involve senior management, faculty, and/or external constituencies. Successfully executes day-to-day tasks and deliverable milestones. Provides School with strategic leadership in the business planning, implementation and evaluation of revenue generating online education programs, locally and globally.
Administrative Management:
Manages financial, human resources, and technology for the highly successful On-Campus/Online MPH program. Develops short- and long-term business plans, project plans and key performance indicators, identifies resource needs, creates revenue/expense budgets, and hires resources as identified. Establishes operational performance indicators and benchmarks and monitor services to online students and faculty. Manages budget for online programs, including maintaining a return on investment and a revenue growth strategy. Identifies and pursues funding opportunities and revenue streams to support students in online programs. Supervises programmatic and administrative direct reports of varying levels. Recommends hiring of new employees, salary actions, extensions/terminations, performance ratings, and other related issues of managed staff and student employees. Ensures team members have the knowledge, tools, and access they need to perform successfully in their roles. Participates in advanced program budgeting and accounting processes to support financial infrastructure of revenue generating programs.
Program Evaluation:
Assess effectiveness of online education programs, and recommend changes to program content, policies and procedures accordingly. Collaborates with Faculty Director on accreditation, campus reporting requests (Graduate Division, Graduate Council) and UCOP annual reporting. Ensures university compliance with all relevant guidelines and regulations from UCOP, Berkeley campus, accreditors, governmental agencies, and professional associations. Consults with academic/administrative units in Public Health to develop and implement strategies to assess course- and program-level student learning outcomes and use assessment results for curriculum and instructional strategic planning.
Relationship Building:
Facilitates the efforts of various departments, managers, and outside constituencies to ensure effective collaboration. Works closely to develop partnerships and collaborate with key stakeholders to achieve goals including DEIBJ goals, build relationships, communicate, and keep stakeholders informed of progress. Serves on the Online Education Faculty Steering committee, participating in short- and long-term planning.
Professional Development:
Stays abreast of best practices and new developments in marketing, recruiting/admissions and the design of the student experience in online and distance learning programs.
Other:
Engages in other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications

Advanced interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups including faculty from a variety of disciplines to achieve results is expected. Ability to maintain confidentiality, objectivity, sensitivity, discretion, professionalism, and exercise good judgment and tact. Comfortable, flexible, and adaptable in a fast moving, high pressure, and constantly shifting environment. Multicultural competencies, and ability to work with diverse populations. Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MicrosoftRequired Suite, Google Collaboration Suite, and/or other related business software programs and systems.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications
Working knowledge of the field of public health.
Education:
Master of Business Administration, Master of Public Health, or similar advanced degree.
Salary & Benefits
This is a 100% full-time (40 hours per week) exempt career position, which is paid monthly and eligible for full UC Benefits. Annual salary is commensurate with experience within the range of $125,000.00 - $155,000.00.
