Departmental Overview
UC Berkeley's School of Law is one of the nation's great centers for legal education, ever exploring and pushing new intellectual boundaries while tackling urgent, real-world issues. The Media Services team provides classroom audio/visual support, full-service lecture capture and distribution for Berkeley Law.
Berkeley Law conducts numerous events throughout the year, conducted by staff, faculty and students, and serving the entire law school community and beyond. The Event AV Technician helps to support these in-person, online and hybrid events by providing consultation, training, setup and operation of AV technologies such as projection, sound reinforcement, recording and Zoom videoconferencing and Livestreaming. This role reports to the Media Services Supervisor, and works closely with the Berkeley Law Events team and various event coordinators within the law school who may be students, staff or faculty. The Event AV Technician also assists the Media Services team in supporting instructional technology in the classroom as needed.

Responsibilities
Support:
Works with faculty, staff and students to project, amplify, record and edit their events and classes at the law school by providing and operating a wide variety of instructional, multimedia, audiovisual technologies, networks and computer hardware and software.
Coordination:
Collaborates with the Media Services supervisor and the Berkeley Law Events team to coordinate and implement AV support for in-person, online, and hybrid Law School events. This may also involve coordinating with campus AV or outside vendors.
Provides backup support and assists the Media Services team with classroom instruction services.
Provides front-line service to faculty for classroom technical support.
Assessment:
Consults with event organizers to conduct needs-assessment analysis and determine appropriate methods and solutions to meet their specific needs.
Provides consultative advice, training and support on media technology, such as video conferencing, live streaming and polling platforms to deliver and enhance presentations and events.
Provides training and guidance to promote self-service when appropriate, and develops training materials as needed.
Manages equipment inventory and provides troubleshooting and purchase recommendations as needed.
Advises event organizers on relevant campus policies such as accessibility, release forms, etc.
Engages in professional development and training opportunities as needed.
Performs additional duties within the scope of this classification as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Thorough understanding of video and audio production methods and equipment with the ability to use this information to operate and troubleshoot complex systems.
Experience with live A/V event support
Thorough understanding of classroom-based instructional technologies
Experience with web collaboration, video conferencing and live streaming technology.
Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new tools and technologies, and adapt to a rapidly evolving field.
Good understanding of video production and post-production processes, including experience with video and audio recording and editing.
Demonstrated ability to assess client needs for AV IT technology products and design services to meet those needs.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills in order to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at all levels in the organization.
Thorough customer service and consultative skills to identify, communicate and implement required technology solutions.
Broad general knowledge of computer, audio, video, and networking technology.
Strong troubleshooting skills
Knowledge of current industry trends and new audio-visual technology
Experience coordinating, delivering, and troubleshooting Audio-Visual and Instructional Technology services.
Experience consulting with and advising clients on technical, multimedia, audiovisual and online presentation methods, equipment and intellectual property issues.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and video conferencing platforms. Ability to learn and quickly adapt to new computer programs and software systems.
Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB), and ability to apply and integrate core concepts of DEIB into everyday practice.

Education/Training:
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in an academic, instructional and/or event setting.
Experience with room AV and conferencing systems such as Crestron, AMX, QSC, Biamp, Epiphan, and Zoom.
Experience with complex hybrid events featuring both in-person and online presenters and/or participants.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $35.50 - $36.80.
This is a full-time (40 hours/week), Career appointment and eligible for full UC benefits. This position is a non-exempt, bi-weekly paid position. Hourly pay for this role is commensurate with experience.
