Departmental Overview
The Center for Student Conduct (CSC) is a department that reports to the Associate Dean of Students in the Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean of Students Office within the Division of Student Affairs. The CSC is the campus office charged with administering the Berkeley Campus Code of Student Student. The office contributes to the holistic development of students by administering the student conduct process in a manner that ensures student development, consistent and fair application of University policy, and respectful treatment of all participants; as well as providing outreach and education to the campus community. It is responsible for a number of functions and programs that have a direct impact across the Berkeley campus and in the larger community.

Responsibilities
Assesses new complaints of potential policy violations as outlined in the Berkeley Campus Code of Student Conduct and formulates a response based on intake results, procured documentation, and similar, past case precedent. Reviews and analyzes issues, complaints, and concerns regarding alleged misconduct at all levels of complexity to determine if sufficient evidence exists to proceed with charges against a student according to policies and procedures as established in the Berkeley Campus Code of Student Conduct. Refers out-of-scope issues to appropriate resources. Conducts moderate to complex investigations and facilitates the adjudication of allegations of misconduct by identifying appropriate violation(s) of the Berkeley Campus Code of Student Conduct, filing formal charges, offering informal resolutions, and proceeding to formal hearings when appropriate. Makes fact-finding determinations based on a preponderance of information standards, presents those findings, and recommends sanctions responsive to the severity of the conduct and impact to the campus community. Represents the Center for Student Conduct in formal hearings by presenting allegations and investigation findings, questioning witnesses and the responding student, and responding to questions from both the hearing body and the responding student. Submits appeals and responds to student appeals regarding the outcome of a formal hearing by gathering all relevant documents and writing thoughtful responses to student appeals for the Vice Chancellor's review. Monitors completion of sanctions to case closure and limits student enrollment and degree conferral by placing student registration and degree holds until expectations are met. Ensures that student conduct records are properly maintained in the student conduct database. Prepares and redacts student conduct records in compliance with relevant policies. Trains, advises, and assists others in understanding a student's conduct record-its components, release, and maintenance as determined by University policy and Federal and State laws. Manages sensitive and confidential matters regarding complex cases as dictated by FERPA, Clery, Title IX, etc. Assists the Center for Student Conduct leadership with response to audits, California Public Records Requests, FERPA requests, investigations, and media and data requests. Makes recommendations to departmental leadership regarding the development and implementation of critical coordinated response systems that support students engaged in the student conduct process. Proposes revisions to the Berkeley Campus Code of Student Conduct that reflect changes in legislation, University philosophy, practice, or guiding principles. Consults with campus partners and community stakeholders and delivers education and training programs that focus on the application and adjudication of the Berkeley Campus Code of Student Conduct. May facilitate the training of community members including students, staff, and faculty. Represents the Center for Student Conduct in campus-wide and systemwide committees as assigned. Coordinates and/or participates in a variety of committees and workgroups that provide reports and analyses on complex student issues, including but not limited to, the Chancellor's Enterprise Risk Committee (CERC), Medical Withdrawal Committee, Cal Athletics, and neighborhood groups/committees.
Required Qualifications
Thorough knowledge of ethics and compliance profession, theories and systems of student learning, and professional compliance and investigations standards. Broad knowledge of and/or ability to learn University ethics and compliance policies, procedures, and programs. Applies thorough ethics and compliance concepts and applications in the adjudication of cases. Skills in problem-solving, mediation, and communication. Ability to gather, organize, complete analysis, and develop recommendations in the adjudication and coordination of student conduct cases. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups. Skills in coalescing viewpoints and facilitating outcomes in both one-on-one and group settings. Ability to present information in a clear and concise manner both in writing and verbally.

Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $99,365.00.
This is a 100% full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits. This position is exempt and paid monthly. Currently this is a hybrid position, eligible for 40% remote capability. There are 3 openings for this role.
