Departmental Overview
Research, Teaching, and Learning (RTL) enhances and supports the UC Berkeley academic experience by providing essential, responsive, and innovative technology services. The unit directly improves and supports instructional technology across the UC Berkeley campus.
The RTL service portfolio includes classroom technology services supporting the campus, including the Classroom Technology Support Helpdesk, Instructional Equipment Checkout, Specialized Auditorium Support, Active Learning Classroom Support, Zoom for Instruction, and Instructional Computing Classrooms.

Responsibilities
RTL is looking for an experienced Audio/Visual Technician with service and installation experience. Under the supervision of the Design and Engineering Manager, the ideal candidate will perform a variety of duties involving installation, and replacement of audio, video, network and computer display equipment.
Assist campus faculty and lecturers as a key member of the Design and Engineering and Classroom Support teams. Required duties include but are not limited to rapidly responding to classrooms, lecture halls and meeting spaces for immediate troubleshooting, repair and/or training necessary to assist with the presentation of multimedia materials. Routinely make decisions to minimize system downtime.
The position requires the ability to independently troubleshoot, repair and maintain data projection and multimedia systems in classrooms, lecture halls, and meeting spaces. This equipment includes data projectors, touchscreen based control systems, wireless audio systems, DVD, Blu-ray, and media players, and A/V routing switchers.
Required Qualifications
Knowledge of data projection systems, audio systems, computer systems, switching and control systems, and associated multimedia equipment.
Experience and skill to quickly and independently troubleshoot, repair, maintain and install many different types of AV/IT equipment.
Skills to use schematics to wire equipment racks, display devices, control systems, and associated equipment.
Customer service, interpersonal communication skills, and ability to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels of the organization.
Ability to interpret AV schematics, architectural, electrical, and mechanical drawings.
Problem solving and critical thinking skills to diagnose problems and determine steps necessary to an efficient and effective solution.
Knowledge of PC and Mac computers and commonly used software such as Microsoft Office, Google docs and other communication software.
Ability to use AV equipment configuration software from various manufacturers.
Ability to organize work and complete assignments in a timely manner.
Flexibility to adapt schedule and work changes with shifts in priorities.
Skills to communicate and interact with both faculty and staff in a manner that is consistent with accepted industry and university standards.
Understanding of basic networking principles and computer network configurations.
Preferred Qualifications
Three years experience in the field of Audio/Video systems integration.
AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) Certification.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to diplomatically work with faculty and other clients to solve problems with classroom AV systems.
Familiarity with architectural, electrical, structural, and mechanical building trades and practices.
Ability to use AutoCad to create and edit schematics and architectural drawings is a definite asset.
Strong organizational skills utilized both for inventory and space management as well as prioritization of various tasks based on impact
Self-awareness regarding personal knowledge and skills as they apply to assigned functions and tasks; the ability to identify training needs and relate them to current functions and responsibilities as well as annual goals and objectives
Salary & Benefits
This is a full-time (40 hours/week), career position, and eligible for full UC benefits. This position is a non-exempt, bi-weekly paid position. Hourly pay for this role is commensurate with experience within the range of $35.55 - $39.97 (Step 1.0 - 3.5).
