Departmental Overview
This position is part of a team responsible for the design and implementation of communications for Student Affairs' initiatives that serve the entire UC Berkeley campus. This team works collaboratively with central campus offices (Public Affairs, University Relations), respective functional owners from a variety of departments (Undergraduate Admissions, Financial Aid, Registrar, Dean of Students, Residential and Student Service Programs including house and dining and hospitality), and partner offices (academic units, Administration and Finance) to successfully launch and sustain Student Affairs communications initiatives.

Responsibilities
Provides analyses for complex budget, financial, data, systems and resource projects working directly with all levels of managers.
Has responsibility for the department budget including creating the budget with the Director and tracking monthly progress. (note: Finance department provides detailed financial analysis services for the entire Division of Student Affairs)
Has responsibility for research, development, implementation and day-to-day use of efficient and effective systems for managing information, projects and communications to ensure accurate and timely responses.
Proposes, leads and/or participates on policy and planning committees and working groups. Researches and summarizes best practices in field. Provides consultation, planning, facilitation and assessment to achieve strategic objectives.
Develops proposals and recommendations to guide and support a broader strategic direction for the organization.
Collaborates with departments such as Finance, Purchasing, and IT to coordinate the development, implementation and monitoring of new programs and processes. Helps manage vendors (print, design, photography and videography).
Makes high level contacts of a sensitive nature, internally and externally requiring discretion and diplomacy in order to negotiate with or persuade others to adopt the proposed solution.
Guides and directs planning which may include senior campus management and/or external constituencies.
Leads and directs a wide variety of projects and follows through with all levels of staff and individuals inside and outside the organization. Develops proposals and recommendations to guide and support a broader strategic direction for the organization.
Supervises student staff team to oversee office management functions like order supplies and creating and tracking purchase orders; handle routine communications requests (like finding and cropping photos), and, under supervision, other projects .
Ensures that high quality work is completed within budget and time constraints.
Works with clients and SA Comms leadership to contribute ideas in developing long and short term strategic plans.
Create production schedules and manage all timelines, following up with clients as needed.
Maintains strict confidentiality. May involve high level contacts of a sensitive nature, internally and externally, requiring discretion and diplomacy.
Develops and presents complex proposals and/or business plans on a broad range of issues to include problem identification, costs, benefits and options.
Develops and advocates solutions to system issues, including developing and administering new systems, policies, processes, or programs. Ensures compliance with service level agreements/memos of understanding with other units on campus.
Provides highly complex analyses across programs, policies and initiatives for the SA Communications team. As a member of the leadership team, develops proposals and recommendations to guide and support a broader strategic direction for the organization.
Required Qualifications
Experience working on or supporting a marketing communications team.
Advanced time management, multitasking, organizational, and conceptual and planning skills. Advanced skill in meeting demanding deadlines and in problem recognition, avoidance and resolution.
Advanced knowledge and experience of process analysis, strategy development, and organizational effectiveness.
Advanced ability to work in a collaborative manner to achieve results and to facilitate small and large groups.
Advanced knowledge to assess, design and implement customized strategic, organizational, and process improvement plans.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, both verbally and in writing.
Exceptional attention to details.
Advanced, demonstrated small to large project management skills.
Advanced, demonstrated experience with project management specific tools (such as Smartsheets, Team Work, BaseCamp, Asana, Microsoft Project, etc.).
Strong critical thinking skills and investigative skills; analytical problem-solving skills.
Developed judgment and decision-making skills. Ability to work with minimal supervision and direction; ability to "manage up"; ability and willingness to take initiative.
Strong experience working with colleagues and audience members from diverse backgrounds and communities-particularly underrepresented communities.
Political acumen and sensitivities to the differing perspectives and political circumstances within all levels of the campus as well as the Office of the President and external constituencies.
Experience supporting a high-level executive, a high-profile organization, and/or a customer facing organization.
Expert multi-tasker with ability to handle multiple priorities and demanding timeframes.
Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
Salary & Benefits
