Position overview Position title: Associate Specialist
Salary range: The UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. The current base salary range for this position is $59200- $82100. "Off-scale" salaries, which yield compensation that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.

Anticipated start: Fall 2023
Position duration: One year, with possibility of an extension depending on performance and availability of funding.

Position description
The Berkeley Center for Smart Infrastructure (CSI) addresses challenge areas of interest to Civil infrastructure systems. The center develops and tests emerging technologies such as intelligent systems and networks, remote sensing and monitoring, and data analytics for decision-making. It houses a large-scale testing facility to develop intelligent infrastructure system components and trial smart construction and maintenance methods using remote monitoring and robotics technologies. The center also has a computer simulation and data analytics facility to examine the resiliency of infrastructure systems in terms of aging, energy management, climate change and cascading failures using the state-of-the art big data and AI tools." This position will work directly with Professor Keinichi Soga research group.
The job responsibilities will be as follows:
Develop and implement geotechnical instruments using the sensor technologies available at CSI for the above-mentioned experiments
Conduct geotechnical analysis of the experimental data
Write reports on the experiments and the analysis results.
Coordinate the experiments with CSI researchers/staff and the stakeholders.
Present the research findings to the stakeholders

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Candidate must have a Master's degree (or equivalent international degree) at the time of application.
Preferred qualifications
Degree in Geotechnical Engineering and related disciplines is preferred.
Finite element analysis on soil-structure interactions
Geotechnical Instrumentations including distributed fiber optic sensors and wireless sensor network
