Departmental Overview

The Department of Chemistry is seeking a new Coordinator to support our top-rated PhD graduate program in Chemical Biology. Our students have the opportunity to work with Nobel prize winning scientists and focus on addressing the major scientific and technological challenges facing the world. Responsibilities
Program Management:
Coordinates all student admissions specific to the Chemical Biology Program. Works with other campus units to coordinate three annual rotation placements per each student admitted. Administers Chemical Biology Super-group including coordination with CRS. Plans and administers annual Ethics course for trainees and NIH postdocs Event planning for 4 poster sessions per year and other activities as needed. Provide program details to faculty, staff, and students. Coordinates fundraising related duties for the ChemBio program. May supervise student assistants.
Financial Management:
Develops, prepares, and reviews budgets and financial reports for funding which may be complex for both the ChemBio Program and the Department of Chemistry. Performs recharge administration and account reconciliation. Prepares and submits travel reimbursements to campus, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), and other related organizations.
Administrative Duties:
Provides input into non-technical portions of grant and contract proposals, including coordinating diversity efforts for T32 NIH training grants. Serves on committees and student visits, representing the Program/Department unit as needed. Coordinates and participates in a variety of human resources activities, ensuring the completion of forms and documents related to HR and payroll for the Program and Department. Enters information into Student Information System (SIS). Facilities hiring of research group members for the Department. Utilizes campus systems such as SIS, BAIRS, BearBuy, and CalAnswers (PI Portfolio) to enter, track and correct requests. Assists in the design and drafting of organizational website content; drafts newsletters and correspondence to organizational constituents. Design and develop ChemBio program brochure. Other duties as required by the department to ensure smooth functioning of the ChemBio program and related functions in the department.
Required Qualifications
Thorough knowledge of and/or ability to learn University rules and regulations. Thorough knowledge of processes, protocols and procedures for budget, account and fund management and, personnel management. Thorough knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques, human resources policies and procedures for staff and academic employees. Knowledge of a variety of administrative operations activities such as events planning, basic fundraising processes, risk management planning, website design, accounting and payroll, and contracts and grants regulations and guidelines. Knowledge of and/or ability to learn common University-specific computer application programs. Interpersonal communication skills to Include verbal and written, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising and counseling skills. Strong skills long and short-term planning, analysis and problem-solving and customer service. Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Salary & Benefits
This is a 100% full-time (40 hrs a week) exempt career position, which is paid monthly and eligible for full UC Benefits. Annual salary is commensurate with experience within the range of $78,000.00 - $88,000.00.
