Summary of Job Duties:Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Administration and Finance in the COPH along with a close working relationship with the Director and staff of Grants Accounting, the Associate Research Finance Director provides leadership in reviewing the financial transactions for the College, analyzing reports and recommending procedures designed to enhance research finance and program operations. Along with the Assistant Dean, the Associate Research Finance Director assists with day-to day financial operations of the College as well as all post award management of the College's growing grant portfolio (estimated at $20M). The position may represent the division and/or department with internal and/or external administrative affairs.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree plus six (6) years of experience in finance and administration in an academic medical setting required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office suite of programs.
Basic accounting knowledge.
Experience using Workday financial reporting.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree.
Experience in a grants/sponsored program-related group such as OSPAN or as a Department Administrator.
Grants Management Program certification.
Advanced accounting knowledge.
General understanding of grants accounting.
Knowledge of UAMS Workday reports and UAMS purchasing.
Additional Information:
Responsibilities:
Serve as the College's senior Cost Center Manager, responsible for the review and approval of the College's purchase requisitions, journal entries, and travel expense reports in WD.
Process Foundation PARs and the biannual time and effort certifications.
Maintain rolling projections of grant and contract activity including analyses of potential marginal expenses.
Monitor actual expenditures as compared to budget for all levels: College, departments, programs, and cost centers.
Liaison with Grants Accounting as the College's grant portfolio manager, currently estimated at $20M.
Responsible for all grants from the Notice of Award to the award close.
Coordinate the account set-up facilitator in Workday.
Facilitate kick-start meetings for all new awards in the College and provide leadership to all Principal Investigators (PIs) and department admin in providing monthly reports and guidance in understanding them and processes needed to assist in managing their grants.
Perform costing allocation changes, payroll accounting adjustments, journal entries, and accounting adjustments, budget revisions, and cash management/invoicing for grant sub-awards.
Manage cash receipts and manage an aging report with less than 20% open over 120 days.
Provides leadership and support to departments in understanding grant reporting and managing open encumbrances.
Maintain an active role as an Alumni in the UAMS Grants Management Certification Program and if budget is available, plan on attending the NCURA Financial meetings annually.
Perform other duties as assigned.
