https://fulbright.uark.edu/departments/music/Summary of Job Duties:The Department of Music in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Horn to start in August 2024. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment.
This tenure-track Assistant Professor position entails primarily teaching and recruiting a horn studio of both undergraduate and graduate students. Regular performance is expected, including with the department's two wind chamber ensembles, Arkansas Brassworks and the Lyrique Quintette. Additional teaching responsibilities may be assigned depending on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience. Building or maintaining an active national or international profile as a performing artist and teacher is expected. Secondary interests and areas of expertise are welcomed, and may contribute to success in fulfilling the University's research and creative activity goals for promotion and tenure.
The Music Department seeks to contribute substantively to increasing the diversity of the University of Arkansas campus. Candidates may align with this goal through activities that encourage students to identify and cultivate their strengths and interests.
Music faculty are expected to participate in outreach and contribute to departmental, college, and university service.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
About the Department
The Department of Music inspires the mind and spirit through the pursuit of excellence in creative activity, research, teaching and performance. The multi-disciplinary department hosts year-round performances by students, faculty and guest artists and offers academic and professional training in performance, composition, ethnomusicology and music education, history, theory and business. Minimum Qualifications:

With submitted materials, the candidate must demonstrate

  • DMA, or terminal degree, in Music or a related field from an accredited institution of higher education conferred by the date of initial appointment

  • Evidence of college-level horn teaching

  • A record of horn performance at the national or international level

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstration of teaching excellence

  • Experience in interdisciplinary collaborations

  • Demonstrated versatility in chamber music, orchestral music, as a soloist, and/or other diverse performing situations

  • Demonstrated success working with underrepresented communities

  • Demonstrated commitment to outreach and/or service

  • Ability to teach in a secondary music area, such as entrepreneurship, music literature, or music theory

  • Commitment to, or experience in, mentoring students in creative activities and/or research

  • Strong evidence of the ability to be an active, involved, and collegial member of a collaborative faculty team both on campus and in relevant national service organizations

  • Evidence of ability to provide service to the University and the profession

  • Demonstrated evidence of strong interpersonal communication skills
