Position Summary:

UAA Center for Human Development/Alaska Training Cooperative promotes healthcare and behavioral health career development opportunities for direct support professionals, supervisors and professionals in the filed engaged with the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority beneficiaries by ensuring that training technical assistance and training is accessible and coordinated. The IS Ops Technician will provide the project management and in-house support for the Learning Management System (LMS) and other technical skills needed to maintain the AKTC's workforce training mission.
About the Center for Human Development:
The Center for Human Development (CHD) is a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities in Education, Research, and Service (UCEDDs) authorized by the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act of 2000. There are 67 UCEDDs, at least one in every state and territory, which form an Association of UCEDD's (AUCD.org). Since CHD is the only UCEDD in Alaska, we serve the entire state.
The UAA Center for Human Development has 4 major functions:
  • Interdisciplinary education
  • Community training and technical assistance
  • Research
  • Information dissemination
These activities are designed to increase the independence, productivity, and community integration and inclusion for individuals with disabilities. CHD’s projects and activities are not limited to developmental disabilities; they focus on a wide range of disabilities, ages, and issues.

This position will provide the project management and in-house support for the Learning Management System (LMS) and other technical skills needed to maintain the AKTC's workforce training mission.

To thrive in this role a successful candidate will have advanced knowledge of communication systems, diagnostic techniques, practice and procedures for a wide range of computer systems, platforms, applications, data communications, service tracking and other applications used in help desk services. Candidates should exhibit the ability to communicate effectively; have the ability to train and support staff to identify and resolve or refer operational problems in data processing, computer operations systems and related technology; and demonstrate problem solving skills in areas of data processing functions and computer operations. Ability to maintain security protocols, accuracy of data including fiscal and outcome reports, and ability to interpret financial datasets for appropriate reconciliation.
Strong candidates will have experience with registration and learning management/content delivery systems, and financial tracking systems (such as Banner, Touchnet, Genius, and/or Blackboard). Additionally, a candidate with proficiency in accessible document creation/remediation or ability to become so within first year of employment will be beneficial. Strong, responsive communication skills including excellent customer service skills, written, verbal, and technical writing and experience providing support for people of varying levels of abilities and experience (i.e. non-traditional learners and learners with disabilities) would also make for a top candidate.

Minimum Qualifications:

Optimal candidates will have the ability to read, interpret, and maintain compliance with applicable policies, laws and regulations specifically related to FERPA and fiscal information handling. Workflow management skills, including specifying project needs, tracking progress, and ongoing communication are vital. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a varying, fast-paced environment is a key qualification.

Position Details:

This position is located on the University of Alaska campus in Anchorage, and flexible on-site/hybrid work arrangements may be considered in accordance with UA regulations. This is a full-time, term-funded, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 78, based on education and experience.

The university system started as the Alaska Agricultural College and School of Mines in Fairbanks, later renamed the University of Alaska. That first year, the campus was a single two-story frame building and had just six students. The school was renamed the University of Alaska in 1935.
