Job Summary: The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the PhD or other doctoral degree under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee.

Additional Department Summary: The Metallurgical & Materials Engineering Department at The University of Alabama is a seeking candidate for a Postdoctoral position. This position is available to individuals with research interests in water chemistry. The candidate will be advised by Dr. Gregory Thompson.
Successful candidates will hold a terminal degree in Metallurgical & Materials Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, or a related field and demonstrate a record of academic achievement in research. The College and/or the Metallurgical & Materials Engineering Department will establish a series of structured merit-based evaluations. Initial appointments are for one year, with renewal contingent upon demonstration of research productivity.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Doctorate. Additional qualifications based on assignment.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. or other terminal degree in Metallurgical & Materials Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, or a related field.
Candidates will need to have completed their Ph.D. or have it completed by the start of employment. Applicants should upload a cover letter, curriculum vitae and include at least two references in the reference section of the application. Skills and Knowledge: Experience with cryogenic electron microscopy methods; in situ deformation studies with electron microscopy; material fabrication methods, such as sputtering.

Preferred Qualifications: Strong analytical skills are beneficial, including but not limited to scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, atom probe tomography, in situ mechanical testing apparatus for electron microscopy, work flow development for cryogenic sample testing. Experience with data visualization and analysis software.
