Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm

Job Summary: The Academic Advisor I provides guidance to University students on academic progress, courses, University resources, etc. Identifies courses to be completed in upcoming semesters. Explains University and College policies. May teach compass course as needed.

Additional Department Summary: Advises undergraduate students daily to discuss academic, personal and pre-professional concerns, registration, and degree progress using a variety of reporting tools and maintenance of appropriate records. Oversees various coordinating responsibilities, programs and activities for undergraduate students in the college. Focuses on advising undergraduate students looking into the Accelerated Master's Program in economics and finance. Prepares and finalizes semester teaching schedules, enters schedules in CLSS, and assigns classrooms using Astra. Maintains the course inventory in Courseleaf and making yearly updates of catalog edits. Coordinates the Department's celebration of the University's Honors Day. Recruits, schedules, and supervises the Helm's Scholars and A-Team members, the UG tutors for the department. Showcases the finance and economics majors at the various majors' fairs on campus, during and off-working hours and some weekends. Works closely with the athletic department on featuring majors.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher.

Skills and Knowledge: Excellent verbal and written communication skills including public speaking. Experience in advising with a focus on exploration, adjustment and student success. Ability to interpret student needs and determine appropriate recommendations and referrals. Knowledge of the theory, principles and practices related to academic advising. Ability to collaborate with various campus partners. Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.

Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree. Relevant experience with Banner and DegreeWorks.
