Job Description
The University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Pediatrics is seeking to hire a physician for the Child Abuse Pediatrics Division (CAP). This is a clinical faculty position providing direct patient care, as well as responsibility for teaching. Additionally there are opportunities for clinical research based on the interest of the faculty member. The full-time academic position is open to a physician who is board certified or board eligible in Child Abuse Pediatrics, or in General Pediatrics with a strong interest in child abuse.
The Department of Pediatrics has a strong record of academic achievement and provides education to pediatric residents, medical students, and numerous subspecialty fellows via electives, lectures, and other clinical experience. The UAB Child Abuse Pediatrics Division has an active clinical & academic program providing medical consultative services for more than half of the state. The division provides inpatient and outpatient consultations at the Children’s of Alabama, a private, non-profit children’s hospital which is a Level 1 Trauma Center and is the only free-standing children’s hospital in the state with a complete complement of subspecialty services. The new faculty member will join an established team of 3 physicians currently in the division. In addition, there is a large full service pediatric SANE program providing 24/7/365 service for pediatric assault victims in the ED. Outpatient consultations are seen in the Children’s Hospital Intervention & Prevention Services (CHIPS Center) immediately adjacent to the hospital. The CHIPS Center is part of the CAP Division and includes 2 social work case managers, a PSANE RN, and several counselors providing counseling and community child abuse preventative services in addition to the medical services at the outpatient center. The CHIPS Center is the primary medical resource for 18 of the 35 child advocacy centers in Alabama.
