General Responsibilities To provide observation and surveillance of assigned patients. To monitor patients by use of video monitors. To communicate and/or instruct patients by use of 2-way audiovisual device. To notify clinical staff of any changes in patient condition and/or safety risk level. To complete documentation of observations of patient activities, patient behaviors and other safety & comfort related issues. Key Duties & Responsibilities
1. Continuously observes activity and behavior of multiple patients at a monitor station utilizing Virtual Sitter software to ensure a safe patient environment.
2. Verbally redirects patient over digital 2-way audio device that is in the patient room. Immediately summons the nursing staff if the patient requires assistance.
3. Identifies potential patient safety risks/concerns and communicates to the RN.
4. Participates in hand-off of pertinent patient information/behavior at shift change. Arranges meal break and other relief times prior to leaving monitoring station so that backup may be provided to ensure constant patient observation.
5. Provides patient with explanations as necessary but does not counsel or provide opinions.
6. Seeks assistance when a patient appears to pose a threat to themselves or others. Participates in collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues. Seeks assistance with removal of any potential safety hazard from patient rooms and reports findings to RN in a timely manner.
7. Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements High School diploma or equivalent required. Experience working in a hospital preferred. Licenses / Certifications / Registrations Certified with Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) preferred.
