The University of Notre Dame (ND.jobs) is accepting applications for a Machine Shop Program Manager.

The Engineering Machine Shop Program Manager oversees all machine shop functions including maintenance and production using best practice manufacturing concepts to achieve continually improving performance in the areas of safety, quality and productivity. The manager coordinates the production of machined parts, supports and leads improvement efforts on machines and machine processes on existing parts, and supports the University enterprise projects. This is a hands-on position, and the Machine Shop Manager will be expected to run any and all of the machinery in the Engineering Machine Shop as well as be able to train people on the safe operation of this machinery.
The Engineering Machine Shop Program Manager's responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following: providing hands on programming, setup, fixturing, and machining of components in support of the University's operations, research, and maintenance enterprise; maintaining the Engineering Machine Shop work schedule and communicating this schedule with the customers routing work through the shop in a timely and efficient manner; quoting jobs submitted by professors, graduate students, undergraduate students and outside sources; purchasing special tooling, material, hardware, and other components needed to complete a job; and attending design review meetings and providing advice on projects, ranging from design to materials to feasibility to fabrication. The Machine Shop Program Manager is responsible for securing outside machine shops when outsourcing a job is needed including the shipping, receiving, transporting, and delivery of material and/or jobs.
The Machine Shop Program Manager is responsible for the compliance of all OHSA and University Risk Management policies and maintaining shop safety as a number one priority, along with maintenance and upkeep of all shop machinery and components and arranging for all training sessions for software, tooling, machining practices, and University safety programs.
A preferred candidate has been identified.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • 7 or more years experience
  • Hands-on technical background working on CNC and non CNC machinery. Management experience in a technical field (machining, machine maintenance, etc.). Familiarity with 2D CAD and 3D CAD and CAM systems. Machining, assembly, tooling, and fixture experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Tool and Die journeymans program completion or equivalent.
