The University of Notre Dame (ND.jobs) is accepting applications for a IT Professional.

The primary responsibilities of the IT Professional are to install, configure, and maintain computers (physical and virtual) and printers in Engineering Science Computing (ESC)-controlled classrooms in both the College of Engineering (CoE) and College of Science (CoS) and to install, configure and maintain the suites of application software required for Engineering and Science classes. This position will also be responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining hardware and utility software needed for endpoint computer management (ex. image deployment server, remote management software) and for researching, testing, and implementing new approaches to improve the efficiency of tasks related to endpoint computer management. Additionally, the IT Professional will identify, diagnose, track, and resolve technology-related problems and provide data analysis to help the ESC Director in writing reports to the Deans of CoE and CoS. This position will work in a team setting but operate independently to accomplish its primary job duties, and it requires comprehensive knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of software and hardware administration, both on the client level and on the server level. Specific responsibilities include the following:
  • Install, configure, and maintain classroom computers (physical and virtual) in CoE and CoS, including remote clusters (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure or VDI). Diagnose, identify, and resolve technology-related issues with classroom computers (physical and virtual). Utilize issue-tracking software (ex. ServiceNow) to manage issues/problems.
  • Write and maintain scripts to optimize and automate installation and maintenance of operating systems and software. Build and maintain software installation repositories for the automated installation for CoE and CoS classroom computers (physical and virtual).
  • Engage directly with faculty and staff to assess and determine the computing needs (hardware & software) for teaching and learning spaces in CoE & CoS. Provide research and analysis in order to improve usability, performance, and reliability of classroom computers (physical and virtual) and software. Research and implement new approaches to improve efficiency of tasks.
  • Install, configure, and maintain servers and related utilities used to prepare/deploy software and hardware products for classroom computers (physical and virtual) in CoE and CoS.
  • Document procedures for tasks such as imaging a classroom workstation, deploying an AppStream instance, and other core tasks. Maintain a current and accurate inventory of all CoE and CoS classroom workstations.
  • Collaborate with ESC team members, other campus IT units, and CoE and CoS faculty, staff, and students. Provide feedback to facilitate efficient, cost-effective and productive solutions for both colleges, and the University as a whole.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • At least 3 years of experience
  • Experience in installing and maintaining desktop and server operating systems, particularly Windows, Mac OS and Linux. Strong ability to troubleshoot and solve a variety of computer hardware and software problems. Experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Batch, PowerShell, and Python. Working knowledge of cloud/physical solutions for classrooms. Experience managing small to mid-sized projects. Familiarity with Database systems such as Access and SQL is desirable.
