DescriptionPosition Summary

The Surgical Clinical Reviewer's (SCR) chief responsibility is to collect and submit reliable data to the ACS NSQIP-P. This is accomplished through high quality data compilation, documentation and entry into the ACS NSQIP-P database of all eligible surgeries for the hospital. The SCR works closely with the members of the Department of Surgery to identify opportunities for clinical quality improvement and other special projects as may be identified.

Essential Functions
  • Use of Systems: Performs concurrent & retrospective electronic data collection from clinical and operational databases.
  • Data Analysis: Analyzes clinical and operational data, develops summary reports / recommendations, control charts / graphs, trends outcomes, identifies opportunities for improvement, collaborates with team members, and supports recommendations with data and judgment.
  • Communication: Supports and facilitates quality improvement initiatives in collaboration with Pediatric Surgery Medical Director through meeting attendance, data preparation, leading analytical discussions, effective written/verbal communication skills, professional interpersonal skills, and keeps management informed of data requests.
  • Works Effectively with Patients, Families, and Staff: Establishes effective working relationships with members of the hospital community, especially staff in Surgery, Medicine, Nursing, Medical Records and Information Systems, as well as patients and their families.

    Role Development: Actively engaged in ACS NSQIP-P Program through completion of SCR training/Certification program, ongoing program teleconferences and attendance at the national conference
