DescriptionPosition Summary

The Director, Perioperative Services has direct responsibility leadership of the clinical services and growth and strategic leadership of operations for the CMC Operating Rooms, CMC PACUs and CMC reporting Ambulatory Surgery Centers. This role will also determine organizational strategy and future focus, as well as for translating and integrating the operational goals of CMC into the oversight of, and planning for, operational processes for the above CMC areas. In addition, this position is fully accountable for implementing and evaluating patient care practice standards in conjunction with medical and discipline specific clinicians within the CMC and Ambulatory Surgery Centers. The Director position will have responsibility and oversight over perioperative nurse educators to ensure that orientation is managed consistently, effectively and timely during orientation at CMC.

Essential Functions
  • Along with Nursing Manager leadership, coordinates clinical operations, in Nursing, Anesthesia and Surgery to maximize OR operations on a day to day basis. Works in collaboration with Nurse Managers to determine staffing needs and to optimize daily operations.
  • Manage and coordinate real time patient flow/throughput. Priority focus to improve OR throughput. Identify and implement new processes to improve OR efficiencies.
  • Responsible for overall schedule flow including; add on case accuracy, reason for cancellation and time allowable for cases. Will handle moderate to high complex situations and will be responsible to make decisions and judgments related to those situations.
  • Serve as primary contact to resolve real time operational issues and has the highest level of authority to make operational decisions.
  • Supervision and management of all people responsibilities including hiring, firing, performance, employee relations, and recognition for Nurse Managers and Nurse Educators.
  • Creates and implements strategic direction and is responsible for the continued growth and development of CMC & ASC perioperative locations. Ensure all services provided have the highest quality outcomes.
  • Ensure quality, safety and regulatory measures are followed within CMC, as well as all ambulatory locations
  • Provide leadership for compliance with DNV, FDA, CMS and other regulatory standards. Incorporates AORN standards into practice setting.
  • Builds collaborative working relationships across all functions related to Perioperative Services. Provide recommendations to decrease costs and increase business through data analysis, tracking trends and measuring the value of services provided.
  • Responsible for all information management, which includes all data, reporting, and measures to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of the OR operations. Provides recommendations and makes decisions on quality processes, cost reduction, revenue generation, supplies/machines, and services provided.
  • Manages vendor relationships and responsibility to regularly review vendors to ensure maximum service compared to cost.
  • Develop and implement strategies to continuously improve employee engagement. Champion continuous improvement initiatives in the delivery of care while addressing the needs of staff in adapting to change. Where possible, strive for standardization of policy, procedure, and operations to ensure a seamless delivery of patient care and an optimal care delivery system in which physicians and other healthcare providers practice.
