POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs a variety of duties required in pharmacy operations and assists the pharmacists in the accomplishment of their duties.Accomplishes under the supervision of the professional staff, competent, efficient and timely performance of assignments within the structure of the Pharmacy Department.
FUNCTIONS/BEHAVIORS
1.Sets up unit of use medications, prepares I.V./piggyback admixtures, pre-packs, fills unit dose cassettes, refills and loads medications into Pyxis, and fills routine and emergency floor/unit stock orders.
2.Verifies all activities for accuracy and approval by the pharmacist prior to distribution, and assures that all medications for distribution are in date.
3.Receives medication requests from patients or units/clinics.
4.Receives telephone inquiries and requests of a non-professional nature, i.e., refill call-ins, patient/staff inquiries, supply, accounting, etc.
5.Performs operations in the Inpatient and Outpatient computer systems, including prescription or order entry, crediting and charging, label generation, etc.
6.Obtain continuing education credit as set forth by Texas Pharmacy Law.
7.Performs billing functions as required for inpatient as well as outpatient pharmacy.
8.Performs other duties as assigned for the accomplishment of the pharmacy department's mission.
9.Demonstrates competence to perform assigned patient care responsibilities in a manner that meets the age-specific and developmental needs of patients served by the department.
10.Appropriately adapts assigned patient assessment, treatment and/or care methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific and other developmental needs of each patient served.
11.Supports University Health System mission, vision and values.Demonstrates established customer service behaviors and standards.Treats all customers with courtesy, dignity, respect and professionalism.
