Position Summary

Personal Counseling attempts to strengthen students’ self-esteem, to attain a deepened awareness of their potentials and limitations, and to make use of their intellectual and personal resources enabling them to reach their full potential as integrated persons consistent with the university’s mission. Student Wellness is a holistic presentation of services, resources, and skills to allow students to maximize their student experience, while maintaining balance, growth and development as individuals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide daily individual ongoing psychotherapy treatment for students. 
  • Create and run student based psychoeducational and therapy groups as needed. 
  • Maintain and offer mental health referral sources when the need arises; develop appropriate printed and web-based mental health resource materials for the Wellness Center. 
  • Design, implement, and present psycho-educational programming on a broad range of psychological issues including training for RA’s, PTV, SOAR and other student related events. 
  • Assist the Director of Student Wellness in annual assessment and evaluation of student satisfaction data, Annual Health Fair, and any outreach efforts. 
  • Assist in developing community referral sources as needed.
  • Attend professional development conferences. 
  • Attend and participate in division meetings as necessary. 
  • Maintain effective and accurate record keeping; creating and maintaining charts in a timely manner. 
  • Maintain office hours from 8:30am until 5:00pm to manage any student crisis that may arise. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree (M.A.) in Counseling Psychology, Social Work, Clinical Psychology, Mental Health Counseling or related clinical area; five or more years of related experience.

Demonstrated high degree of sensitivity, understanding, ability, knowledge, and experience working with students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. 

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience working with college students and an awareness of developmental perspective is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Excellent written and verbal communication skills including experience and ability to give group presentations. Demonstrated excellence in organizational skill set, including attention to detail and thorough record-keeping ability.

Physical Requirements

Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (1 to 10 pounds).

Work Environment

Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.

Licenses/Certifications

Must currently possess full licensure or be on track to obtain full licensure for practice in the State of Michigan. Preference will be given to candidates with current licensure.

Salary/Pay Information

Commensurate with experience

Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
