Position Summary

The College of Liberal Arts & Education (CLAE) at the University of Detroit Mercy (UDM) invites applications for Assistant Dean for Student Academic Affairs, a full-time staff position focused on advancing student academic success. We seek candidates committed to partnering with faculty and staff to curate a transformational educational experience for our students. The Assistant Dean will join CLAE at a time of exciting change as we embrace our new name, vision, mission, and strategic plan. The Assistant Dean for Student Academic Affairs will join a community committed to a student-centered experience that extends from the classroom to academic advising and mentoring. CLAE prides itself in providing support and services that ensure students’ success as they progress toward graduation while attending to their overall personal and professional development. 

The Assistant Dean will report directly to the Dean, joining an energetic team that includes the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education and Associate Dean for Graduate Education who collaboratively oversee college-wide administration. The Assistant Dean will be a student-centered, collegial individual who values strong relationships, exhibits clear verbal and written communication skills, and demonstrates an ability to solve problems through collaborative processes. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Managing all areas related to undergraduate and graduate course scheduling. 
  • Supporting student enrollment and registration 
  • Engaging with faculty and staff to support student advising and mentoring
  • Overseeing CLAE’s content in the University’s course catalog 
  • Identifying and implementing procedures and practices to optimize student success.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in K-12 and/or higher education
  • A bachelor’s degree from accredited higher education institution
  • The ability to accurately complete duties requiring attention to detail
  • The ability to take a systematic perspective of existing procedures, processes, and structures in order to ensure effective management and ongoing improvement 
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills that enable impactful engagement with students, staff, and faculty
  • A professional track record that reflects successful support for diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A master’s degree from an accredited higher education institution
  • Three or more years of experience in K-12 and/or higher education.

Physical Requirements

Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping

Work Environment

Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office

Salary/Pay Information

Commensurate with experience

Anticipated Schedule

Monday to Friday – 8.30 AM to 5.30 PM
