The Book Shop is currently hiring a bookseller/backlist buyer. This is an hourly position with a set schedule, though some flexibility is desired. This position will provide excellent customer service on the sales floor, and will be responsible for backlist buying for the Book Shop. The ideal candidate for this position thrives on providing excellent customer service at all times. 

As a Bookseller/Sales Associate, your typical day might include the following:

• Greet and engage customers. Help them find the books they’re looking for and make recommendations.
• Process sales and returns transactions on the cash register, following established procedures.
• Perform backlist buying across all sections of the Book Shop.
• Provide support to the front list buyer as needed. 
• Assist with shelving and merchandising of books.
• Write staff recommendations and reviews of upcoming releases.
• Prepare register for opening and perform tasks to close at the end of the day, as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by department Manager or Assistant Manager.

• You have previous bookstore experience (required) and book buying experience (preferred).

• You have previous Net Suite experience (preferred).
• You are organized and detail-oriented.
• You possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

These positions operate in a retail environment and regularly interact with customers and use equipment such as cash registers, computers, and phones. The employee will regularly be standing, sitting, walking, bending, kneeling and stooping, and must be able to lift or move items that weigh up to 30lbs.

Work Schedule

This is a part-time, hourly position with a set schedule of 25 hours per week. Must be available during open store hours (Mon – Sat 10AM-6PM and Sun 12PM – 4PM), including at least 1 weekend day.

Wage and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.50 - $20.75/hour and benefits include: holiday, vacation, and sick pay; merchandise discount; employee assistance program; and a subsidized bus pass.
