University at Buffalo is Hiring a Business/Data Analyst, Sponsored Projects Services Near Buffalo, NY

The Department of Sponsored Projects Services is seeking a Business/Data Analyst to support the ongoing data needs for research focused units on campus, while providing reports and training for University constituents. This position must be able to communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver services that achieve a high-level of customer satisfaction.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Gather and analyze university data from multiple data domains, including UB websites and faculty webpages, CRMs and internal databases, as well as external sources including Academic Analytics, and federal and state data sources, to provide a detailed understanding of institutional areas of expertise and leadership and opportunities for growth.
  • Perform statistical analysis, qualitative and quantitative methods for quality improvement.
  • Perform various ad hoc and recurring data requests and produce various reports and dashboards in a variety of formats (Tableau, Salesforce, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.) to be used in proposals, presentations to government officials, external funders and industry partners, and for content on VPRED webpages.
  • Conduct strategic analyses by querying, cleaning, manipulating, interpreting, visualizing, and presenting data using statistical techniques, including analyses to be used for quality improvement.
  • In collaboration with various VPRED stakeholders, map data flows and perform gap analysis.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in information science or management information science or an analytical field and 1-2 years of experience as a data analyst, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to statistically analyze, understand and use information from multiple data sources, including relational database management systems and associated data warehouses to perform analyses and to prepare reports and briefings.
  • Possess technical experience regarding various data models, data mining and segmentation techniques.
  • Experience in a business intelligence and/or data visualization tool, e.g., Tableau.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask in a time-sensitive environment while maintaining a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational skills for archiving, validating, categorizing, and organizing datasets.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, problem-solving, oral and written communication skills with a customer-centric approach.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in a related field, specifically a Master’s degree in an analytical field of study, higher education or closely related field.
  • Experience in public doctoral institutions within higher education or state governance policy setting.
  • Basic to intermediate predictive modeling skills.
  • Experience in data mining and visual analytics techniques.
  • Experience with enterprise applications such as Salesforce, etc.
Physical Demands
Salary Range
$65,000 - $75,000
Additional Salary Information
The salary range reflects our good faith and reasonable estimate of the possible compensation at the time of posting, the role and associated responsibilities, and the experience, education, and training of the selected candidate.
