General Laborer Job Position

Job Summary

The General Laborer is responsible for routine labor, maintenance, and housekeeping within a variety of functional areas. These may include, but are not limited to general maintenance, warehouse organization, completing production tasks, cleaning and maintaining a safe work environment, and performing light landscaping work. This position will also assist in machine operation, material handling, and the production of sample marketing materials. Laborers must have the ability to manually move, stock, and handle raw freight material up to 60lbs. They should be eager to expand their skill set and take instruction from supervisors and managers to complete on-the-job training.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

General

• Handles assignments in sequential order to complete assigned tasks.
• Assist in the production of sample marketing materials.
• Obey health and safety codes, as well as the company’s principles.
• Reports any unsafe conditions or defective equipment to a supervisor immediately.
• Maintain general housekeeping duties.
• Must attend weekly safety meetings.

Requirements / Education / Experience

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous warehouse/production experience preferred.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions.
• Ability to follow company production and safety procedures.
• Open mind and an eagerness to improve skillset.

Utility / Production

• Operate machinery or equipment as trained while following safety guidelines.
• Assist team leader in preparing/completing shift production.
• Work closely with the lead operator and become knowledgeable of the mechanics and operation of the machines you work with.
• May be required to work with docks, ramps, forklifts or landscaping equipment as assigned.
• May be required to operate equipment such as forklift, saws, hydraulic equipment, hand and/or power tools, among others (Internal certification/training is required for these tasks).
• Maintain, verify, and count inventory.

Yard / Warehouse

• Cleaning and maintaining yard site and yard equipment.
• Loading and unloading materials and equipment.
• Building and taking down scaffolding and temporary structures.
• Repairing damaged crates and pallets.
• Digging trenches, compacting earth and backfilling holes.
• Operating and tending machinery or heavy equipment.
• Maintaining trash receptacles on the premises.
• Inspecting all community spaces daily to identify problems with litter, safety issues, mechanical failures or breakdowns of equipment.
• Assist in completing shipping/receiving documents.
• Verifing accuracy of trucks/loads leaving the premises.
• Correcting and/or disposing of defective material.

Clean-Up

• Maintains the surrounding area, keeping it free of debris.
• Cleans and maintains machines and conveyors.
• Cleans yard and picks up reusable scrap for salvage.
• Transport trash and debris away from production areas.
• Responsible for keeping pallets neat and orderly.

Samples

• Assisting with the production of sample requests while monitoring and maintaining minimum stock levels of specific sample items.
• Cleaning and preparing any products prior to assembling a sample request.
• Ensuring "excellence in quality" with all sample items prior to shipping.
• Packaging and labeling of outbound product samples.
• Preparing all samples for shipping then working with logistics to ensure order accuracy.

Partial Crate Orders

• Responsible for fulfilling partial crate orders.
• Power washing stone if necessary prior to packing and shipping.
• Report poor stone condition issues to general manager and yard supervisor.

Handyman skills

• Experience in warehouse or with stone and granite is a plus.
• Experience with plumbing and electrical systems is a plus.
• Excellent facility with common hand and power tools.

Physical Requirements

• Physical requirements include extended standing, walking, sitting, bending, climbing, working inside and outside, and use of protection equipment.
• Job requires the ability to get on and off containers and flatbeds trucks repeatedly throughout the day.
• Ability to lift up to 60lbs.
• Willingness to uphold company standards for safety and efficiency.
• Assist in unloading containers.
• Must have own transportation and a valid driver’s license.
• Must be able to pass drug test.
• Must be willing to work in all types of weather climates.
• Color vision: Laborers must be able to distinguish color clearly to perform their duties.
• Mechanical acuity: Laborers also must maintain and operate heavy equipment and machinery, from forklifts to bridge saws and more.

Other duties and responsibilities related to the nature of the job may be assigned on a temporary or permanent basis as needed.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: From $17.00 per hour

Expected hours: 32 – 40 per week
