Basic Job Functions:

Universal Industrial Gases, LLC. (UIG) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Nucor and a well-established, global engineer, constructor, supplier and operator of air separation plants and related equipment and services, based in Bethlehem, PA. UIG owns and operates production plants across the USA which supply both Nucor steel sites and third-party clients 24/7 with tonnage quantities of oxygen, nitrogen, and argon as well as exporting liquid cryogenic products by road tanker.

UIG is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Supervisor to oversee the safety and environmental activities at all gas production facilities, as well as assisting project construction safety and environmental compliance efforts as needed. This position could be based in Bethlehem, PA, or potentially in a UIG facility in Kentucky, Arkansas or South Carolina.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards.

This role will be responsible the following items but is not limited to:
  • Work closely with Teammates, Contractors, and Leadership to drive continuous improvement in our safety culture, performance, and safety systems,
  • Ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Lead and develop the safety and environmental team members responsible for interpreting and practically applying regulatory standards.
  • Make field visits to coach teammates, conduct safety inspections and audits, and complete special projects as required.
  • Ensures all documentation and record-keeping is properly filled out and on site.
  • Authoring and maintaining operations and construction SOPs as needed.
  • Working closely with the Nucor safety and environmental teams across the organization
  • Key member of company safety and environmental initiatives as applicable
  • Ability to travel 25% to UIG locations across the country.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, or environmental sciences
  • Strong communications skills
  • Ability to organize daily tasks and to work in a self-directed environment.
  • Ability to work outdoors in a construction atmosphere.
  • Experience with MS Office

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a Construction or manufacturing safety environment.
  • Bi-lingual English and Spanish.
  • Industrial gas experience
