Our facility offers behavioral and psychological treatment for adults and adolescents through our acute programs, adolescent residential programs, as well as programs for active duty military. We have a new opening for Assistant Chief Nursing Officer / Director of Nursing - Military. The ACNO/DON is a registered professional nurse who shares delegated responsibility and accountability with the Chief Nursing Officer in all matters related to patient care, clinical delivery of services, nursing staff, nursing budget and FTE management. The ACNO works to ensure compliance with hospital policy and procedures, regulatory requirements and nursing standards of practice. This position assists the Chief Nursing Officer in contributing to the hospital's philosophy, objectives, educational and Performance Improvement efforts. The ACNO is pivotal within Psychiatric Services. This position has the responsibility for coordinating the programs from both a micro and a macro perspective. In a general sense, the ACNO is responsible for the coordination of the interdisciplinary care delivered to patients on both the Residential and Acute Units. The Patient Activity Schedule must be followed. Each discipline must complete their assigned responsibilities in a timely manner. Each member of the team must adhere to unit and hospital policies and procedures. The ACNO has the responsibility for monitoring the overall functioning of the unit and for initiating problem solving activities when necessary. While not a direct supervisor of the non-nursing members of the team, the ACNO is charged with keeping the activity on the unit organized and may intervene, when necessary to discuss concerns, problems, suggestions with other treatment team members or with non-clinical support staff, such as housekeeping, maintenance, business office, dietician involving the Chief Nursing Officer as necessary. In collaboration with the Shift Managers and with input from the nursing staff, endures that best practice standards are adhered to at all times. Works with the Nurse Managers and House Supervisors to: plan nursing interventions to meet specific patient needs, establish daily patient assignments and unit routines, model excellent customer service skills. Through collaboration with the Shift Managers, ensures continuity of care and the maintenance of quality programming and care. Serves as the on-call RN on a rotational basis as dictated by the needs of the facility. Serves as the CNO designee as appointed by CNO. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Position Requirements:

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • CPR Preferred (offered on-site)
  • Handle With Care Preferred (offered on-site)

Education/Experience:

        • Bachelors's degree form an accredited school of nursing; Master's degree in psychiatric nursing or related field required.

General Requirements:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age per Commonwealth of Virginia Interdepartmental Regulation of Children's Residential Facilities (22VAC42-11-380, pg. 43)
  • Must have patience, tact, and a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm
  • Good communication skills; must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
  • Basic clerical skills, basic experience with office equipment (telephone, copy machine, fax, etc.)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
  • Ability to problem solve and accept feedback when circumstances warrant such actions
  • Willingness to interact with patients with varying levels of cognitive functioning
