UnityPoint Health is Hiring a Supervisor Rehabilitation Therapy - Physical Therapy Near Rapids, IA

Overview

In conjunction with the manager, the supervisor is responsible for assuring the delivery of timely and effective rehabilitation services to all adult and pediatric patients. Responsible in the areas of planning, organizing, budgeting, supervising, evaluating, staffing, scheduling, training and educating therapy staff. Within the scope of the individual's own discipline, the supervisor is responsible for evaluation, interpretation, planning, implementation and documentation of specific treatment programs. The supervisor will have a mix of patient care and management duties as determined by the manager.

Responsibilities

Patient Care/Resource Management

  • Models patient outcome focused care and family-centered practice.
  • Assures provision of patient care to meet patient needs through delivery of service in a timely manner and according to the goals and scopes of services for assigned area.
  • Assists Manager with ensuring development and implementation of evidence-based standards of care for the patient population.
  • Assists Manager with assuring compliance with The Joint Commission, CARF, DIA, Iowa Board of Therapy Examiners and other applicable regulatory bodies.
  • Examines patients/clients - obtains history, performs a systems review, and selects and administers discipline- and age-specific tests and measures to obtain data
  • Evaluates patients/clients - makes clinical judgments based on data gathered during the examination
  • Develops patient/client diagnoses or problem lists (cluster of signs and symptoms)
  • Develops patient/client prognoses (optimal level of improvement and time needed to achieve it)
  • In collaboration with patient or family develops plans of care with measurable goals
  • Develops and implements patient/client interventions, including delegating and supervising support staff
  • Provides patient and family education and training
  • Meets individual and department productivity
  • Monitors and adjusts productivity as it relates to guidelines developed within the division
  • Completes required patient care documentation and communication as applicable
  • Formulates and implements patients’ discharge plans in collaboration with others
  • Assists with management of day to day operations for the department, including measurement of the department's effectiveness.
  • Maintains appropriates staffing levels to meet patient care and service needs
  • Investigates variances and initiates corrective action or justifies non-adherence to quality, financial and patient satisfaction outcome goals.
  • Assists Manager in ensuring the establishment and maintenance of an orientation program for new department associates, based on principles of adult learning.
  • Assists Manager in ensuring in-service, on-the-job training and continuing education programming to meet identified staff development needs.
  • Ensures that proper communications and plans are coordinated with other hospital departments.
  • Participates in recruitment, interviewing, selection, promotion, transfer, status change and L.O.A. decisions.
  • Assists Manager in evaluating associates against established performance criteria, ensuring that all staff meet expectations.
  • Provides ongoing counseling and coaching with direct reports.
  • Models collaborative behaviors that facilitate achievement of department and program goals.
  • Handles conflicting situations in a dignified and respectful manner.
  • Ensures physician, patient and family satisfaction with services provided.

Program Planning/Development

  • Assists Manager in conducting regular department meetings for problem solving, decision making and communication.
  • Collaborates with Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation management, physicians and others to facilitate planning, implementation and evaluation of strategic plan and other initiatives.
  • Assists with planning and implementation of written goals and objectives.
  • Effectively communicates hospital and division mission, vision and strategic framework.
  • Facilitates the organization and coordination of the delivery of services and care provided through assigned area.
  • Assists Manager in maintaining appropriate quality control programs.
  • Continuously assesses and improves department performance.
  • Attends and contributes to education offerings.
  • Speaks to hospital and community groups, when appropriate.
  • Participates in community preventative and/or health maintenance projects/programs when appropriate.
  • Collaborates with available resource persons to plan, implement, and evaluate research projects, when appropriate.

Basic UPH Performance Criteria

  • Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
  • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
  • Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Education:

Graduate of an accredited therapy program, Bachelor’s degree or higher

Experience:

· Minimum of 3 years clinical experience

· Experience in an interdisciplinary rehabilitation model

Previous leadership experience

License(s)/Certification(s):

Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

· Comprehensive knowledge of rehabilitation theory and practice and an expanded knowledge of current clinical and specialized patient care concepts related to own professional clinical service area

· Competency in computer word processing, spreadsheet and internet skills

· Understands health care reform related to assigned area
