UnityPoint Health is Hiring a RN/LPN/CMA - Work Well Near Rapids, IA

Overview

Position provides medical, health and safety services to employees within established protocols and administers medication when necessary. The nurse is responsible for the immediate treatment of personnel due to illness and injury. Following any work-related injury, the nurse calls the injury into the facility TPA so that a “First Report of Injury” can be completed and shares this information with HSE. The Occupational Health Nurse regularly performs a variety of additional duties including: scheduling pre-employment/post –offer physicals including blood work, vision testing and drug screening; ordering and maintaining sufficient quantities of necessary medical supplies; and maintaining employee medical records. The OHN coordinates the completion of OSHA and Worker’s Compensation reports and performs special projects as assigned. A current state Registered Professional Nursing License is required for this position.

Responsibilities
  • Is aware of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (eg. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of department or hospital administrative staff.
  • Purposefully conducts all aspects of the job in an ethical manner in support of the hospital’s commitment to ethical behavior in all areas of personal and professional activity.

Occupational Health Systems:

  • Identifies existing and monitors local regulations that impact facility Occupational Health systems.
  • Participates in Occupational Health systems audit.
  • Implements Occupational Health corrective actions.
  • Develops, implements and evaluates an annual Occupational Health plan.
  • Develops and manages wellness and fitness for work programs.
  • Maintains and reports metrics and cost benefits analysis.
  • Develops and manages occupational rehabilitation programs including supporting documentation and records.
  • Records and maintains individual employee medical records and system supporting record keeping.
  • Completes and maintains daily record of health service activity.
  • Maintains employee health records on all respiratory fit tests and Medical Evaluation questionnaires. Coordinates employees visits to the Occupational Health Clinic for Respiratory Fit Testing and Pulmonary Function Testing.
  • Schedule physical exams and post-offer work-ups.
  • Coordinate a variety of occupational training and testing.

Incident/Injury Response:

  • Immediate treatment of employees due to illness or injury.
  • Calls in all occupational injury and illness to the facility TPA.
  • Records and provides required safety, worker’s compensation and insurance data.
  • Participates in incident investigation as needed.
  • Manages incident report system.
  • Maintains incident data.
  • Trains first responders.
  • Manages injury response equipment (AED’s, first aid kits, etc).
  • Develops and implements controls to minimize exposure to biological hazards.

Clinical Activity:

  • Provides guidance/direction to employees around STD, LTD and FMLA programs.
  • Tracks and provides information to facility management on employees currently out of work due to non-work related incidents.
  • Access on the job injuries and illnesses.
  • Provides direct care, including treatment of occupational injures and illnesses.
  • Coordinates and provides follow-up care and treatment for occupational injuries/illnesses.
  • Schedules/coordinates health screening and assessment such as hearing, vision and other testing as appropriate.
  • Schedules/performs pre-placement, in-service and termination physical examinations.
  • Records all medication dispensed.
  • Provides initial direct care and treatment of non-occupational injuries and illnesses.
  • Monitors and evaluates outside vendor and health care providers for clinical relevance and cost-effectiveness. Make recommendations as appropriate.
  • Manages health services supplies.

Rehabilitation:

  • Develops treatment and return to work plans with short and long-term goals including objectives for healing and optimum rehabilitation of employee injuries/illnesses. The plan includes predetermined and designated time frames.
  • Begins rehabilitation process from the first day of injuries/illnesses.
  • Contacts and maintains communication with employees while not at work following injuries/illnesses.
  • Coordinates home or hospital visits to employee with HSE manager and factory management.
  • Interview employees for assessing individual employee rehabilitation needs, including physical and psychosocial factors, using data from the case record employee and other community health care providers as appropriate.
  • Implements clinical intervention as necessary to assist employee in returning to optimum health wellness within expected time frames.
  • Coordinates with management and HSE manager in the placement of employees into transitional duty jobs as appropriate to treatment.
  • Works with HSE to ensure Return to Work Agreements are completed with all employees that return to facility on restricted work from work place injuries.
  • Continues to monitor and evaluate recommendation rehabilitation for relevance and cost effectiveness of treatments being provided to employees. Make recommendations as appropriate.
  • Generates rehabilitation activity report to facility management on a regular basis.
  • Tracks cost associated with rehabilitation to include in and determine total cost of incidents.
  • Coordinates and maintains process to generate consistent documentation, care plans and medical records of all individual employee’s medical activity. This activity includes notifying management and immediate supervision of employee status, job functions that can and cannot be performed.
  • Utilizes rehabilitation data in developing relevant wellness programs.
  • Recommends and coordinates independent medical exams as appropriate.
  • Meets with HSE Manager and employee Supervisor to review rehabilitation status and progress.

Occupational Exposure Assessment:

  • Evaluates existing processes/products to identify and prioritize Occupational Health Risk.
  • Conducts ergonomic analysis of equipment, processes and tasks, as needed.
  • Identifies human risk factors associated with employee duties.
  • Coordinates with the assistance of the HSE leader all employee hearing tests as part of the facility hearing conservation program, as well as the Respirator Fit Tests for Respiratory Protection program.
Qualifications
  • Graduate from a state approved nursing school and demonstrates satisfactory academic and clinical preparation. He/she has a current state of Iowa Registered Nurse license or temporary Iowa permit.
  • An RN with on-site nursing experience or experienced within health services related to worker’s compensation and employee safety.
  • An OHN certification is a plus.
  • CPR trained.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations.
  • COHC certified.
