OverviewWe're seeking a Coding Documentation Educator- PB Coding to join our team! The ideal candidate is a highly knowledgeable certified coder who assesses the need for, creates, maintains, and delivers coding and documentation education and guidance to physicians, advanced practitioners (APPs), clinical staff, coding, billing, and/or documentation & coding analyst team members, ensuring compliance with federal, state, organizational rules, regulations, and policies.
This position is open to remote/work from home with strong preference for candidates residing within the UPH geographies of Iowa, Illinois, & Wisconsin.

ResponsibilitiesResearch & Education Delivery
- Research and create materials to provide coding and/or documentation guidance to physicians/APPs, clinical staff, coding, billing, and documentation & coding analysts
- Maintain/update materials for and deliver education to new or incoming physicians/APPs, clinical staff, coding, billing, and/or documentation & coding analysts to ensure delivery and comprehension of current guidance regarding documentation requirements for E/M levels of service, and/or procedure codes, including modifiers
- Maintain/update materials for and deliver ongoing education to coding and/or documentation & coding analyst team members related to CPT, HCPCs, ICD-10, and CMS E/M Documentation Guidelines, to ensure delivery and comprehension of most current guidance, changes, and/or updates to same
Coordination
- Maintain consistent communication with various leaders and team members across the organization to ensure appropriate information and guidance sharing
- Work with Provider Services to arrange and maintain effective communication and scheduling of education sessions for new and incoming physicians and APPs
- Work with electronic based learning team to ensure all appropriate training materials are up today and available on the platform
- Manage the education team schedule and communication for new provider orientation, coding corner, virtual provider learning sessions, coding team education sessions, etc.
Communication
- Maintain regular and consistent communication with team members, Coding Managers and Director
- Create and deliver regular written coding guidance through the Coding Chronicle and Coding Connection newsletters
- Share concerns with and/or escalate team issues to Coding Manager/Director as appropriate
- Encourage teamwork and support in accordance with the FOCUS values
- Serve as a resource for the team and the organization as necessary
QualificationsEducation:
Completion of nationally recognized coding program, e.g., AAPC or AHIMA
Experience:
Five years’ experience with CPT (including Evaluation and Management coding guidelines), ICD-10 coding or equivalent combination of education and years of experience
License(s)/Certification(s):
Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
Current coding certification (e.g., CPC, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, RHIT)
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
- Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office products
- Knowledge of and experience with medical billing, third party payor fee profiles and reimbursement policies & procedures
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to take initiative, exercise independent judgment with strong decision making, and problem-solving skills
