UnityPoint Health is Hiring a Certified Medical Assistant CMA, Paramedic or EMT - Cardiac Rehab (PRN) Near Anamosa, IA

Overview

This position can he hired as either a CMA, EMT or Paramedic. Each role will need appropriate Licenses/Certifications.

The CMA position is responsible for performing routine patient care activities under the direct supervision of a licensed professional. Such actives may include, but are not limited to, being a helper with stretching, strengthening and ROM exercises, provide stand by assistance for patients exercising that are a high risk for falling, assist with taking vitals and placing patients on telemetry units if needed. In addition, the CMA will assist with the setup of patient’s machines, perform a variety of housekeeping tasks, care for equipment and perform a variety of assigned clerical tasks. Patients are provided with a continuum of cardiopulmonary rehabilitative care that begins in the hospital and connects with an outpatient rehabilitation program as well as maintenance exercise program.

Position Accountabilities/Duties:

· Assesses the needs of needs of patients and families.

· Set up equipment and treatment areas for patients

· Transport patients within the hospital campus

· Assist in direct or indirect patient care activities under appropriate guidance, direction and or supervision in accordance with the State of Iowa practice acts. Examples of patient care activities including assisting with mobility stretching, strengthening and ROM exercises.

· When performing direct patient care activities, communicate with supervising professional on each patient each day regarding a change in status of patients treated.

· Is aware of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (eg. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abused. Brings any questions of concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of department or hospital administrative staff.

· Purposefully conducts all aspects of the job in an ethical manner in support of the hospital’s commitment to ethical behavior in all areas of personal and professional activity.

· Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient’s care.

· Delivers high quality care while demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills of the specialty required on assigned unit in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of care.

· Health education directed toward prevention, management and rehabilitation; coordinated to involve multidisciplinary and community services as appropriate.

· Help in identification of medical problems and surveillance and monitoring of the effectiveness of their therapeutic regimes for the referring physician.

· Provision of the equipment necessary to control pain, promote patient comfort and safety and to perform required therapeutic and emergency procedures.

· Continues professional development and involvement in professional activities that enhance practice by sharing knowledge through networking and research.

· Demonstrates knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.

· All unit personnel are specifically educated on emergencies and use of computerized monitoring equipment.

· All personnel have completed BLS All cardiopulmonary rehab personnel are required to participate in unit in-services and competency assessments.

· Ability to manage multiple responsibilities.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Education:

Graduate of an CMA program

Experience:

Experience serving people (Preferably in a health care setting).

License(s)/Certification(s):

Must possess and maintain current CMA certification in good standing from AAMA or NCCT

Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain certification within three (3) months from date of hire.

Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.

Microsoft Office-basic computer skills.

Critical thinking skills using independent judgement in making decisions.

Other:

Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
