Unity Bank is Hiring a Portfolio Manager Near Clinton, NJ

Position Summary

The portfolio manager will manage the Commercial & SBA loan portfolio. The employee will perform loan reviews on the existing portfolio to reaffirm risk ratings, and upgrade/downgrade when applicable, and ensure borrowers are in compliance with covenants. In addition, the employee will be required to contact borrowers, conduct site visits and customer meetings, and work with the credit team and loan officers to resolve customer problems.

Essential Functions

  • Follow up with borrowers to obtain updated financial information including business and personal tax returns and personal financial statements.
  • Research real estate taxes; work with borrowers and loan officers to resolve delinquencies and establish escrow accounts for payments.
  • Monitor the monthly matured report, and work with account officers to renew or extend loans.
  • Obtain required information from borrowers to complete annual loan reviews.
  • Perform site visits
  • Assist borrowers and loan officers in modifying loans as needed for payment modifications, loan restructuring, collateral release, and new money requests.
  • Prepare loan files for submission to outside counsel.
  • Draft memos for any substantial changes in a borrower's financial stability or ownership structure.
  • Follow up with closing department, title companies, and attorneys for trailing documents such as mortgages, assignments of leases and rents, and title policies.
  • Communicate with people outside the organization on a regular basis including regulators, auditors, customers, attorneys, law enforcement, and the general public.
  • Keep informed of industry changes, trends, and best practices.
  • Process servicing requests, e.g. release or subordination of collateral, for existing loan customers.

Job Requirements and Qualifications

  • Job requires a high level of coordination, organization, planning, and prioritization of work, and management of one's own time.

  • Job requires ability to solve complex credits.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field, or equivalent years of relevant work experience in credit administration or commercial lending
  • Three years of experience in a financial institution's commercial loan department.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to read, comprehend, analyze, and interpret financial statements, including but not limited to: Balance Sheets, Income Statements
  • Ability to calculate figures such as cash flow, loan-to-value, and other applicable financial ratios.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, analyze, and interpret legal documents, governmental regulations, and professional publications.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment including proficiency in Word and Excel.
    • Experience with Abrigo (aka Sageworks) desired.
  • Ability to collaborate and relate well to all kinds of people, build appropriate rapport and constructive, effective relationships, and use tact and diplomacy to handle situations comfortably.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to speak and write clearly in order to effectively convey information so that others understand and as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time up to 75% of work hours.
  • Ability to travel within Unity Bank's lending footprint to perform site visits
  • Ability to use hands to grasp, handle or feel.
  • Ability to use computer keyboard and system to enter data and process information.
  • Ability to use telephone to communicate with customers and employees.

Working Conditions

Moderate sound as in business office with office machines, computers, and people traffic.
