UNITED WESTLABS is Hiring a Nursing Home Phlebotomist Near Cornwall, NY

Job Description:

All phlebotomists shall perform their duties in alignment with the vision and values of United WestLabs, Inc. The person doing this job is responsible for a variety of tasks that lead to a high level of quality of customer care and satisfaction in a cost effective manner. Under the direction of the Operations Supervisor, this position shall perform phlebotomy on patients.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Completion of phlebotomy professionally at 2-4 nursing homes on a daily basis (quantity and distribution dependent on volume at each home) which includes travel to, phlebotomy services and complete registration of samples. 
  2. Maintenance of all logs and replenishment of supplies for sites visited. 
  3. Continued communication and feedback to management. 
  4. Maintain a safe and clean environment for all staff members and patients, including without limitation, collecting, and disposing of specimens and other contaminated material in accordance with established policies and procedures and with adherence to the appropriate standards of infection control and body fluid precautions and protective equipment when necessary.
  5. Ensure that requisitions are completed properly, and the patient demographic, diagnosis, insurance and physician information are included on or attached to the requisitions. Diagnostic information shall be in a narrative or ICD-9 code format and valid only if legible.
  6. If a patient is a Medicare patient, you must review the National Coverage Decisions (“NCD”) and Local Medical review Policies (“LMRP”) for the tests ordered on the requisition form to determine if an Advance Beneficiary Notice (“ABN”) must be completed. If the form is needed, correctly complete the form with the patient. (Only applicable if you cover a PSC)
  7. Ensure that the Medicare Secondary Form (“MSP”) is completed when necessary. (Only applicable if you cover a PSC)

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Deliver supplies when necessary.
  2. Obtain any additional information if called upon.
  3. Any other reasonable task you may be asked to perform by the Operations Supervisor and which is not included herein.

Knowledge/Skills/Experience Requirements:

  • Phlebotomy Certificate and license if applicable
  • Ability to proficiently perform phlebotomy on patients of all ages
  • Organization and problem solving skills
  • Evaluative and interpretive skills
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing conditions in work environment
  • Communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Telephone etiquette
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology

Physical Requirements:

  • Continuous sitting (up to 6 hrs/day)
  • Continuous walking (up to 6 hrs/day)
  • Intermittent bending, squatting, and climbing.
  • Simple grasping with both hands
  • Pushing and pulling with both hands
  • Fine manipulation with both hands, repetitive movement

- Frequent lifting of 10 lb. or less, occasional lifting of 11 to 35 lb.
